The Department of Health is seeking an individual to join the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health as the Deputy Chief Medical Officer of Health (DCMOH). This highly responsible and advanced position, which will report directly to the Chief Medical Officer of Health, will be filled by a dynamic and experienced public health physician.
As the Deputy Chief Medical Officer of Health, you will function as part of an interdisciplinary team and will:
- Provide input and leadership on public health issues, policy development, program enhancement, monitoring, and evaluation;
- Manage a team of four Regional Medical Officers of Health, who will report directly to the Deputy Chief Medical Officer of Health;
- Oversee and coordinate regional operations and program implementation for the Division, these activities will include the provision of consultation, advice, and direction;
- Act as a media spokesperson on matters related to public health;
- Draw upon your medical knowledge, skills, and experience to assess issues and communicate decisions affecting the health of the public;
- Demonstrate sound analytical and evidence-based decision-making skills;
- Make decisions in critical situations, sometimes in the absence of complete information;
- Advance the public health agenda in collaboration with senior members within the Department of Health, other government departments, and key stakeholders, including other medical professionals;
- Sit on departmental, provincial, and/or federal/provincial/territorial committees;
- Assume the functions and duties of the Chief Medical Officer of Health during absences, or when they are unavailable to carry them out;
- Provide coverage for the Regional Medical Officers of Health, when necessary, which may require working after hours.

Essential Qualifications:
- Graduation from an approved school of medicine supplemented by certification in the medical speciality of Public Health and Preventative Medicine, and a minimum of two (2) years of related work experience in this medical specialty.
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
- Applicants must be well rounded in their public health knowledge and experience and must demonstrate a substantive knowledge of public health issues, expertise in all aspects of health prevention, protection, and promotion strategies and services, including outbreak management and emergency response.
- Written and spoken competence in French and English. Please state your language capability on your application.
Necessary Special Requirement:
- Applicants must be eligible for full licensure for independent practice with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick.

- Experience related to creating and managing a team of medical professionals

Salary: $263,978 to $307,268 per annum
