OVERVIEW
Gusto Hockey, a subsidiary of RNS, is a skill-development program committed to helping aspiring athletes enhance their skill sets and overall understanding of the game of hockey. We provide a positive teaching approach that encourages and allows players the opportunity to work outside of their comfort zones, take risks, and make mistakes in a safe and controlled environment to become better, more knowledgeable players.
Gusto Hockey offers year-round programs for players, teams, and associations throughout southern New Brunswick. These include specialty clinics, summer hockey schools, fall conditioning camps, spring hockey programs, and coach mentoring.
Gusto Hockey seeks a Technical Director responsible for providing assistance with planning, organizing, administration, and promotion of all programs. The successful candidate will have extensive coaching experience and the ability to lead all on-ice instructors and programming. The Technical Director will also be the Associate Coach with the RNS Prep Boys' Hockey Team and will report to the Gusto Hockey Director and RNS Hockey Director.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Guide and help oversee the day-to-day operations, risk management, program development, and implementation of a challenging, interactive, fun, and inclusive hockey program.
- Provide a safe environment where players can take risks, make mistakes, and get the support they need to become better, more knowledgeable players.
- Ensure the welfare and safety of players and seek positive resolution of player-related issues.
- Provide top-level instruction and support to players by analyzing, evaluating, and structuring sport-specific drill and game components.
- Manage and oversee required logistics and administrative tasks, including player registrations, reservations, program communications and promotions through social media.
- Help with the coordination of hiring & recruitment of program instructors, coaches and/or volunteers.
- Create and maintain collaborative relationships with players, parents, instructors, coaches, and volunteers.
- Provide support to the Head Coach of the Prep Boys' Hockey Team in the form of leadership, management, and shared responsibility.
- Create practice plans and coordinate additional on-ice skills sessions as needed (one-on-one, small groups, team environment, goalie sessions, etc.).
- Participate in the evaluation of the Prep Boys' Hockey players and oversee the creation and implementation of individual development plans as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- University degree, preferably in athletics or a related field of study, or equivalent education and experience.
- Experience as a player and coach with an understanding of the needs of beginners as well as high-performance athletes will be a prerequisite.
- A minimum of Development 1 (Hockey Canada's National Coach Certification Program).
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Ability to build effective relationships, effectively resolve conflict, and gain the confidence of others through honesty, integrity, and authenticity.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to motivate, build relationships, and work collaboratively with colleagues, school personnel, parents, and volunteers.
- Flexibility and initiative, as well as the ability to work independently, combined with skills for thriving in a team environment, to achieve organizational goals.
- The ability to market and recruit for the school's hockey programs.
- High professional and ethical standards for handling confidential information.
- Proficient computer skills with experience using the MS Office suite.
- Available for travel and able to work a flexible schedule to accommodate evening and weekend commitments of the Gusto and RNS hockey programs.
- Willingness to be involved in the school community.
