As part of the Health Physics department at the Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station (PLNGS), you will be responsible for the day to day support and oversight of the environmental monitoring program (radiological), whole body counting program, radiation protection programs, effluent monitoring program and dosimetry services.
Key functions include:
• Radiation Protection Program process documentation, training, maintenance of performance metrics, regulatory reporting, benchmarking, compliance reporting, developing the technical basis for program elements - including ALARA Planning and dose tracking.
• Radioactive Effluent Monitoring Program process documentation, regulatory reporting, instrumentation and support for the Environmental Monitoring Program.
• Support for dosimetry services, oversight of licenced activities, regulatory reporting oversight and departmental support. Dose assignments and maintenance of the dosimetry database and submission of dosimetric results to the National Dose Registry fall under the job responsibilities as well. Interpretation of dose records and calculation and assignment of internal doses for workers at the station is another key function.
Our ideal teammate will have one of the following combinations of education and professional experience:
• A degree in health physics from a recognized university and five years of experience in Health Physics
• Bachelor of Science or Engineering and hold a current Certified Health Physicist (CHP) designation with American Board of Health Physics
• Bachelor of Science or Engineering and hold a current or previous certification from CNSC as Senior Health Physicist
• Master of Science - Health Physics, Physics or Chemistry and three years of experience in Health Physics
In addition to:
• Experience working in Health Physics at a nuclear power plant is considered an asset
• Knowledgeable in radiation protection instrumentation, gamma spectroscopy, and radiation physics.
• Strong communication skills both verbal and written, including proven scientific writing experience
• Exceptional organizational abilities
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize work when faced with competing demands
• Proficient in Microsoft software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint).
Due to security requirements at Canadian Nuclear facilities, the successful candidate will require a Site Access Security Clearance which includes verification of background information, references, a Criminal Record Name Check and a Canadian Security Intelligence Service security recommendation.
Conditions of employment include the successful completion of radiation protection training to the advanced (yellow) badge level.
An Eligibility List generated from this competition may be used to fill future vacancies at the same level within a period of up to 12 months.
