Qualifications and Experience:
- Master's Degree preferred in health related field.
- Five (5) years' experience in the last seven (7) years in a health care management position, including two (2) years' experience in risk management.
- Previous experience related to working with Boards and external agencies.
- Working knowledge of applicable healthcare legislation (Patient Safety Act, Provincial Health Authority Act, Medical Staff By-Laws, etc.), statutory requirements and professional practice standards
- Leadership training.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, as well as, the ability to function in a team setting.
- Demonstrated strong leadership abilities, facilitation skills, initiative, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- To continue the development, implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive provincial risk management program as per the NLHS Integrated Risk Management Framework with Strategic Planning alignment.
- To provide ongoing direction and advice on strategic and operational risks to senior leaders, physicians, staff and legal services.
- To manage NLHS's Risk Register and support regular reporting to applicable board committees.
- To provide expertise and consultation on emerging risk issues.
- To complete formal risk assessments and consultations as requested by program leadership.
- To facilitate and support risk-informed decision making for the organization's leadership.
- To implement and coordinate the Risk Assessment Checklist program, providing support to programs and teams.
- To communicate and provide education on risk management to increase risk management capacity in the organization.
- Utilize NLHS data (e.g. occurrence report trending, claims trending, etc.) to support risk identification
- Facilitate access to legal services for identified risk issues.
- To advise and support organizational leaders on risk management matters including evidence- based risk mitigation strategies.
- Liaise with the insurer, HIROC.
- Coordination of requests from external agencies (e.g Auditor General, Office of the Child and Youth Advocate, Office of the Senior's Advocate, etc).
- To coordinate and facilitate the claims management process.
