Job Description:
BUSINESS/ DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The Wholesale Banking Finance Group is responsible for developing and delivering financial strategy, information, and management support within TD Securities (TDS). A key function within the department is the oversight and governance related to execution and reporting of fair value, in support of TD Securities' business objectives. To ensure the accuracy, valuation, and reporting of financial instruments for financial accounting purposes, the successful candidate will work with different stakeholders to ensure that business lines adhere to policies and procedures, and controls are effective.
Within Wholesale Finance, the Product Control Team supports TD Securities and is responsible for providing overall end-to-end accountability for the completeness, accuracy and timeliness of optimized processes and controls for financial reporting. Product Control is the primary point of contact on Profit and Loss, Balance Sheet, Attribution, and Independent Pricing Verification & Valuation Adjustments reporting and initiatives, exercising an in depth understanding of the products, valuations, and risks of the Business. The Product Control team provides reporting, analysis, investigation, and commentary for a wide range of TD Securities business lines including equity derivatives, fixed income, credit derivatives, commodities, foreign exchange, and more.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES OF INTERN
INTERN RESPOSIBILITIES:
Projects/ Initiatives
Research, investigation and presentation of trading desks strategies, product valuations and fair value, accounting treatment, revenue recognition, balance sheet geography, and trade lifecycle for derivatives in TD Securities (35%)
- Conduct research, investigations, prepare materials and presentations relating to a particular TD Securities business line, which includes equity derivatives, fixed income, xVA, commodities, credit derivatives or foreign exchange. This will include research into trading desk client trades and hedging strategies, markets, product valuations and models, fair value, accounting treatment, revenue recognition, balance sheet geography, trade lifecycle and controls and more. Through these initiatives, you will be partnered with an AVP or Senior Manager with subject matter expertise in the business line and have the opportunity to build networks across various teams in Finance and Accounting, Trading, Market Risk, Trade Support, and Operations.
Process enhancement of specific financial reporting processes related to TD Securities (30%)
- Learn specific Product Control financial reporting processes in a TDS business line with the goal of critically evaluating the process end-to-end for process optimization, automation with tools such as Python or Power BI, or other opportunities of process enhancement. This may include processes such as monthly securitization for residential mortgage trading, monthly financial results packages to trading desks, transfer pricing between trading desks, initial margin funds transfer pricing, independent pricing verification and valuation adjustments processes and more. These are critical financial reporting processes required within TD Securities to ensure accurate valuations, balance sheet, and profit and loss.
Processes/BAU
Financial reporting and attribution processes for a specific business line relating to TD Securities. This business line may include equity derivatives, fixed income, xVA, commodities, credit derivatives or foreign exchange (35%)
- Financial reporting and attribution reporting including profit and loss, balance sheet, and attribution analysis for a specific TD Securities business line, which may include equity derivatives, fixed income, xVA, commodities, credit derivatives or foreign exchange.
- Act as a key subject matter expert supporting for initiatives/projects impacting profit and loss, attribution and balance sheet for the specific TDS business line coverage.
- Provide accurate and thorough financial reporting analysis, interpret results, commentary and make recommendations, to key stakeholders, and refer complex issues / situations beyond own level of expertise.
- Provide advice and guidance to key stakeholders on a range of financial reporting or operational processes.
- Keep current on emerging trends/ developments and grow knowledge of the business, related tools, and techniques.
REQUIREMENTS
Program requirements
Undergraduate or graduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Mathematics (Engineering, Physics, Computer Science) or other quantitative disciplines
Technical / Soft skills requirements
- Keen interest and knowledge of capital markets, financial derivatives, derivative valuations, and accounting practices gained through academic study or practical experience.
- Strong communication (written & verbal), teamwork, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate with business partners, stakeholders, and colleagues at all levels of the organization.
- Innovative thinking and intellectual curiosity for independent research, investigation and problem solving.
- Interest in new technologies, process optimization and/or programming skillsets such as Python and PowerBI is an asset.
