We are seeking an Associate Portfolio Manager to join our Core Global Equity Team, a group grounded in longterm thinking, independent research, and a disciplined, bottom-up investment approach. The team focuses on building concentrated portfolios of high-quality global businesses, often identifying opportunities overlooked by others.
As the Associate Portfolio Manager, you will bring strong investment acumen, a global perspective, and a passion for fundamental research. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience covering global equities, including Japan, and fluency in Japanese is considered a strong asset.
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:- Conduct in-depth fundamental analysis of companies across global markets.
- Evaluate financial statements, regulatory filings, and event-driven developments to assess investment opportunities.
- Develop and maintain detailed financial models and articulate clear investment theses.
- Produce high-quality written and verbal research reports to support buy, hold, or sell recommendations.
- Monitor and interpret macroeconomic, political, and industry-specific trends impacting portfolio holdings.
- Maintain ongoing coverage of assigned companies, including regular updates on earnings, management meetings, and industry events.
- Collaborate with other analysts and portfolio managers across 1832 Asset Management to share insights and contribute to sector discussions.
- Support the team with administrative tasks as needed and participate in broader analyst initiatives.
- University degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field; a postgraduate degree is an asset.
- CFA designation or active enrollment in the CFA program preferred.
- 5–7 years of relevant experience in buy-side or sell-side equity research
- Strong financial modeling and analytical skills, with proficiency in tools such as Bloomberg, CPMS, and Charles River.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly in Excel.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Willingness to travel for industry conferences and company meetings.
