Horizon Health Network (Horizon) is seeking a highly motivated and strategic individual to join our team as a Materials Co-Ordinator for the Surgery Program. The ideal candidate will have experience maintaining and managing a cost-effective inventory management system and collaborate with members of the interdisciplinary team of the Surgery Program.

Who you are
You have a worked in Materials Management and/or Procurement for a minimum of 3-5 years. You have experience in preparing Purchase Requisitions, completing Cost-Benefit Analysis for Capital equipment, and resolving supply & equipment related to clinical use. You have advanced computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and experience in other computer software such as Meditech, ORSOS and PICIS OR Manager.
You hold a bachelor's degree in a Health Related discipline or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Minimum five (5) years recent experience in a health care setting.
Written and spoken competence in English is required at an advanced level.
Previous management experience is an asset.
What you will do
- Resolve supply and equipment problems related to clinical use and quality to ensure the appropriate products are available when needed to provide safe patient care.
- Coordinate and direct the duties of the laboratory materials personnel.
- Determine educational needs of members of the Surgery program multidisciplinary team with respect to supplies and equipment and develop strategies to ensure appropriate education is delivered.
- Provide education for surgery program representatives on relevant materials management philosophies and processes.
- Identify for the Managers and clinicians all new equipment, instrumentation and supplies requiring staff education.
- Where applicable, standardize Surgery Program supplies and equipment and manage inventory.
- Review all products in use and work towards ensuring that only one product is used for the same purpose in all sites.
- Emphasize maintaining and enhancing existing standards of patient care while conserving resources and improving value for expenditures.
- Coordinate the standardization of products and the evaluation of new equipment, instrumentation and supplies that may be considered for future purchase and to report the results to the necessary stakeholders.
- Collaborate with ad hoc and advisory teams to develop and coordinate clinical evaluations.
- Knowledgeable about the most cost effective and efficient instrumentation, supplies, and equipment available and provide this information as appropriate to Managers and necessary stakeholders.
- Meet with sales representatives to view/discuss new equipment, instrumentation, and supplies.
- Prepare a cost benefit analysis for the decision makers for new equipment and supplies when stakeholders request a change in practice or procedure.
- Coordinate the purchase process of major equipment and supplies (including High Tech and Capital equipment requests) with the Program, Purchasing Department, Managers, physicians, and other stakeholders such as Clinical Engineering, Respiratory, Electrodiagnostic, and Anesthesiology.
- Play an active role in the budget process (planning and analysis), providing critical information on projected cost for materials/contracts in the next fiscal year.
- Provide Managers and Surgery program representatives with the recommended standards for equipment, instrumentation, and supplies.
- Act as a resource for projects involving equipment, supplies, and inventory.
- Act as a resource in the development of policies and procedures as they pertain to equipment, instrumentation, and supplies.
- Act as a resource on risk management issues involving equipment and/or supplies.
- Maintain knowledge of clinical procedures and techniques as they relate to supply and equipment requirements.
- Maintain current knowledge of products and equipment in the marketplace by reviewing appropriate literature, attending exhibitions related to supplies and equipment and communicating with vendors.
- Maintain current knowledge of group purchasing contracts (MedBuy) and develop strategies to ensure optimal compliance.
- Establish surgical product inventory control by setting appropriate levels of supplies to minimize inventory holding costs and waste due to obsolescence. Develop processes to ensure appropriate inventory stocking and delivery.
- Participate in appropriate Committees or as requested.
- Direct oversight and management of Inventory Services Administrative Support employees within the Surgical Program
