This position is responsible for the design, analysis, and engineering of innovative and reliable ocean-based aquaculture systems. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and implementing safe and effective aquaculture installations by ensuring the structural integrity and functionality of all components, including mooring systems, cages, nets, and other supporting infrastructure. The engineer will also be responsible for maintaining compliance with all relevant design standards and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and analyze aquaculture mooring systems.
- Create engineering drawings of mooring systems and other fish farm infrastructure.
- Design specific infrastructure related to saltwater aquaculture operations, including mooring equipment, cages, and nets.
- Collect and analyze metocean data relevant to aquaculture site selection and design.
- Ensure compliance with regional regulations and international design standards for aquaculture structures.
- Conduct site resource planning, considering factors such as site leases and equipment compatibility.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with use of numerical modeling software (e.g., Finite element analysis, computational fluid dynamics, etc.).
- Proficiency in both 2D and 3D CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Solidworks).
- Understanding of hydrodynamic principles and metocean conditions (currents, winds, waves).
- Familiarity with automation tools and coding (e.g., Python, VBA).
- Proficiency in spreadsheet software (e.g., Microsoft Excel).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on engineering design and analysis.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or a related field.
- Proficiency in numerical modeling software, specifically related to ocean engineering (e.g., OrcaFlex, ProteusDS).
- Previous work experience relating to hydrodynamics and/or analysis of metocean conditions (currents, winds, waves).
- Significant experience with CAD software.
