The Team
Contributes to the overall success of the CBT data services in Canada ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
Reporting through a Director to the Vice President, Revolving Credit, Data and Transaction, Canadian Banking Technology, the BI Developer provides expertise in developing insights based on the operational data managed by the Canadian Banking Technology team in Revolving Credit, Data and Transactions. The incumbent provides technical leadership and delivery excellence in tools such as Microsoft PowerBI and Talend.

- Proven experience as a BI Developer Background in data warehouse design (e.g. dimensional modeling) In-depth understanding of database management systems online analytical processing (OLAP) and ETL (Extract, transform, load) framework, Knowledge of SQL queries, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
- Proven abilities to take initiative and be innovative Analytical mind with a problem-solving aptitude
- Experience creating Power BI reports based on business requirements with linked content, drilldowns and nested parameters. Optimize PBI dashboards with a focus on usability, performance, flexibility and standardization. Design data architecture structures to support BI Initiatives
- Assists in developing Business Intelligence reports and Operational Analytics capabilities, including but not limited to:
- Canned reports
- Interactive dashboards
- Trending and projections of operational performance indicators (e.g. related to resource consumption, utilization)
- Data quality operational analytics (e.g. data quality measures, metrics, root cause analysis of subject areas such as customer)
- Develops the processes required to support above, based on the DataOps principles, including but not limited to:
- Agile prototyping of dashboards to develop insights quickly
- Automated environment commissioning and tear-down for self-serve analytics
- Self-serve data provisioning
- Automated data profiling
- Identification of infrastructure requirements including Cloud capabilities
- Assists in developing templates / automated processes / toolkits to support above, including but not limited to:
- Standardized data profiling report
- Automated data profiling for cyber/info security
- Automated promotion of dashboard from development to higher environments
- Automated data masking
- Carryout customer data quality analysis, including but not limited to
- Missing fields, categorized by business mandatory, and optional designation – with focus on improving data quality for AML/KYC analysis, and reducing false positives in naming screening
- Domain analyses (unique, non unique, set)
- Field validation (expected domain value, address validation, email validation, telephone validation)
- Intra field validation (postal code for Canadian addresses / accounts, zip code for American addresses / accounts)
- Customer analysis and recommended actions, including but not limited to:
- Accounts with similar named parties and addresses
- Parties with the same address or phone number
- Parties with addresses in sanctioned countries
- Root cause analysis of sources of data quality issues
- Consult on BI capabilities, recommend and execute solutions to address business needs and performance requirements.
- Previous experience developing Business Intelligence databases and systems that allow for the creation of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), Scorecards, and other reporting necessary to create meaningful results that can be used by our internal and external stakeholders at both the strategic and day-to-day level.
- Proven ability to model large quantities of data coming in from different data sources into BI technologies to build a large-scale enterprise reporting and self-service reporting by internal users.
- Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions
- Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?
- University degree in relevant STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) or equivalent.
- 5 years experience in data analytics & reporting related field
- Have a track record of remaining unbiased toward specific technologies or vendors
- Subject area experience with Financial Industry products and services preferred: Retail Banking/Lending, Commercial Banking/Lending, Capital Markets, and Wealth Management
- Experience with innovation, design thinking, agile and the application of DataOps / DevOps
- Experience in data integration projects (ETL/ELT, data design, data governance, data modelling, data analysis)
- Deep experience in developing reporting, business intelligence and analytics solutions
- Deep experience in developing valuable insights (from a business perspective)
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g. PowerBI, Tableau), Python
- Good knowledge of SQL
