Reporting to the Manager of Mental Health and Addictions, the primary purpose of this position is to provide specialized mental health and addiction services to individuals, families, and groups, including screening, assessment, counselling, education, referral, and advocacy. The incumbent works within a multidisciplinary team setting, and in addition to clinical services, works with other team members to develop and deliver health promotion and other educational sessions in the community.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Social Work,
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in assessment and counselling preferred,
  • Experience in mental health and/or addictions, including individual, family and group counselling,
  • Experience in crisis intervention, suicide intervention, and the ability to respond to the emergent needs of clients,
  • Strong analytical, facilitation, written and oral communication skills,
  • Eligibility for registration with appropriate regulatory association,
  • Valid driver’s license,
  • The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory certificate of conduct.

Duties: (Included but not limited to)

  • provide specialized mental health and addiction services to individuals, families, and groups, including screening, assessment, counselling, education, referral, and advocacy,
  • work within a multidisciplinary team setting, and in addition to clinical services, work with other team members to develop and deliver health promotion and other educational sessions in the community,
  • work with the Flexible Assertive Community Treatment (FACT) team, this includes counselling individuals and family members regarding behavioral modifications, symptom management, rehabilitation, social adjustment, and financial assistance,
  • This position exercises a significant degree of independent clinical judgment while providing services to individuals who are seeking or requiring service. As we continue to implement other recommendations from “Towards Recovery: The Mental Health and Addictions Action Plan for Newfoundland and Labrador”, the incumbent will assume other responsibilities.
  • Other related duties as required, travel may be required, may be required to work alone.
