Purpose

The Customer Insights, Data & Analytics (CID&A) team at Scotiabank is central to our ambition to become a truly data-driven organization, leveraging impactful insights, advanced analytics, and robust data governance. A key aspect of our transformation is enhancing how data is understood, accessed, and utilized across business units to drive tangible value. The aim is to provide clear pathways and support for our internal data consumers, enabling them to effectively leverage data & analytics capabilities to achieve their strategic objectives. We are seeking an influential leader to champion this critical enablement function.

The role of the Director, Business Planning & Enablement, reporting to the VP of Business Architecture & Product, functions as a strategic liaison and expert technical navigator for our internal business clients. This role is responsible for building deep partnerships with business units to understand their goals and challenges, and then guiding them through the data & analytics landscape to identify and utilize the most appropriate existing or upcoming products, platforms, and services. This role focuses on translating business needs into clear pathways for data & analytics engagement, maintaining initiative portfolios for each business unit, facilitating technical understanding, and ensuring business units maximize value from available data & analytics capabilities.

We are looking for a leader who excels at demystifying complex technical environments and fostering productive collaboration. You will work closely with business leaders, data & analytics product owners, finance functions and technical teams to ensure seamless access to, and effective utilization of, our capabilities, ultimately driving our modernization and business success.

You are a natural facilitator and strategic guide, adept at translating both business requirements for technical teams and technical capabilities for business users. You inspire confidence by making the complex clear and by connecting business problems to available data & analytics resources. You champion data literacy and the effective use and re-use of our data & analytics products, always striving to simplify engagement and enhance the user experience. You have a demonstrated ability to forge strong partnerships across diverse internal groups — including senior business leaders, product managers, architects, and engineers.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Be the business partner. Serve as the primary technical navigator and relationship manager for assigned internal business units, deeply understanding their strategic goals and guide business users through the D&A ecosystem, explaining available tools, data sources, analytical services, and best practices.
  • Be the portfolio owner. Co-develop and maintain client-side initiative portfolios and align to internal product roadmaps, ensuring alignment with both business priorities and central data & analytics strategy.
  • Be the enabler. Identify talent skill gaps and develop/deliver targeted training, workshops, and resources to enhance data literacy and self-service capabilities.
  • Be the value advocate. Work with business units and finance to provide transparency on costs, manage associated budgets, and track the ROI/value delivered by initiatives.
  • Be a strategic connector. Ensure business needs inform our strategy and, conversely, that our product capabilities and strategic direction are well understood by business stakeholders.
  • Champion a data-driven culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader organizational knowledge to execute on our data strategy.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? – We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Proven experience in a business partnering, technical account management, or strategic planning role within a complex enterprise environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and spoken, with an ability to tailor messages to diverse audiences including senior executives.
  • Ability to be an effective influencer on data product adoption and best practices / an effective evangelist for data-driven decision-making.
  • Experience with consultative approaches and client-side roadmap development.
  • Knowledge of common Data & Analytics tools, platforms (e.g., BI software, cloud data services, reporting tools), and methodologies.
  • Experience in developing and delivering training or enablement programs.
  • Understanding of cost management principles, budgeting, and ROI analysis within a technology or data context.
  • Ability to solve ambiguous and novel business problems by identifying appropriate solutions.
  • Attention to details, high standards for quality in planning and enablement deliverables.
  • Passion for driving teams towards high performance and a deep pride in enabling business success through data.
  • Writing and maintaining related documentation (e.g., roadmaps, training materials, value frameworks).
  • Understand how the Bank's/Company's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and relevant principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, and conduct risk.
  • Champions a high-performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment.
