Department Overview:

The Legal Department at TD Bank Group is comprised of corporate/commercial and litigation lawyers with varying areas of expertise tailored to meet the legal needs of the various business units of TD Bank Group. The Legal Department is committed to delivering to its internal business clients the highest level of expertise, service, responsiveness, and flexibility. Our lawyers identify emerging client opportunities, provide prompt and informed legal advice, and produce tangible results that implement creative solutions.
Wealth Legal (Canada) is comprised of lawyers who specialize in securities laws and the regulatory framework that governs Canada's Capital Markets. The Wealth Legal in Canada team supports TD Wealth's various lines of businesses which includes asset management and securities dealer businesses.

Job Description / Accountabilities:

As a member of the Wealth Legal team, you will work in a fast-paced legal environment delivering quality services to our clients, including TD Waterhouse Canada, TD Investment Services and TD Asset Management. Your primary duties will include:

  • Supporting preparation and circulation of various legal, board and committee documents

  • Preparation of correspondence with other Legal or Bank staff, and third-party agents

  • Responding promptly and thoroughly to requests for information from lawyers, and our internal business clients and other internal stakeholders

  • Assisting lawyers with projects and initiatives

  • Taking initiative to identify and recommend process improvements in our job functions

  • Learning and using software programs and other internal departmental tools and technology platforms including TeamConnect (the Legal Department's document and matter management system) and Tymetrix (the invoicing system for external counsel) or a.v. equipment with ease and efficiency

  • Efficiently manage and promptly respond to incoming enquiries/requests for information or support independently or re-direct to the appropriate person/area

  • Prioritizing and managing workflow to ensure quality and efficiency, meeting deadlines and being flexible in adjusting to changing work priorities

  • Administrative duties including assisting with onboarding new employees filing, copying, scanning, billing, mail, archiving, scheduling meetings, conducting document searches, organizing presentations, ordering supplies, submitting expense reports, etc.

  • Consistently exercise discretion in managing or redirecting correspondence, information and all matters of confidentiality; escalate issues where appropriate

Specific Educational Requirements / Accreditations:

  • Legal Assistant, Law Clerk or Paralegal Diploma is preferred but not required

Other Qualifications / Skills / Experience:

  • High school diploma required

  • 3+ years as an administrative/executive assistant in a legal capacity (in-house or at a law firm) is preferred but not required

  • General computer literacy (Outlook, Adobe, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

  • You must be well organized and able to independently manage your workload

  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral

  • You must be able to work cooperatively with other staff members and have the flexibility to take on any tasks assigned to meet the department's needs

  • You must be an enthusiastic team player continually striving for service excellence

  • Commitment to accuracy and attention to detail is required
