Tideview Terrace is in Digby, NS and is an Eden Alternative Registered community dedicated to eliminating the plagues of loneliness, helplessness, and boredom of our residents. We practice person directed care and our focus is on the care of the human spirit as well as the care of the human body.

POSITION SCOPE:

The primary purpose of this position is to perform a variety of environmental, laundry, dietary and resident focused services in the Resident Households and throughout the entire facility. Support Service Workers are assigned to a Neighbourhood, where they contribute to fostering a home like environment for the Residents. The goal of the position is to provide all Residents with clean, comfortable surroundings, nutritious meals, clean laundry and support the team to deliver quality resident care on a daily basis and in accordance with all standards as set by the Department of Senior's and Long Term Care. All tasks are to be approached in a spirit of teamwork, within neighbourhoods and other teams, to ensure cooperation and completion in an efficient manner. As with every role, the underlying responsibility is the care and well-being of each Resident. As such, the tasks required in fulfilling the responsibilities of this position, and the day-to-day routines/schedules for completing these tasks, are secondary only to ensuring the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of each Resident are met. Specific responsibilities are outlined below in the Key Result Areas. Incumbents of the position are to work within the scope of practice and under the direction of the Mission Statement, Eden Principles, Standards, Policies, Procedures and Standard Work of Tideview Terrace.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of High School or GED
  • Knowledge of infection control guidelines, food safety and WHMIS
  • Knowledge of how to maintain a clean and safe work environment following proper cleaning techniques and OH&S safe work practices, including use of chemicals and equipment
  • Demonstrated ability to work closely with the CCAs and as a member of the multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to work independently in a household for any extended period of time if necessary with the awareness of human resources available to call upon throughout the building
  • Demonstrated commitment in providing an Eden Alternative approach
  • The ability to balance tasks with residents' needs
  • Actively promotes activities that are meaningful to the residents' needs
  • Demonstrated interest in building resident relationships with the importance of providing simple pleasures
  • Adaptable, responsible and takes initiative
  • Displays positive attitudes and behaviours
  • Displays problem solving and decision making techniques
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to perform duties that involve lifting, bending and stretching and meet the overall physical and cognitive demands of the job
  • Maintains confidentiality in all aspects while on and off duty
  • Outstanding work history inclusive of good attendance, demonstrated availability to work, available to work all shifts, weekends and holidays, and willingness to work all Neighbourhoods and all Support Service departments in current and past employment
