POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Manager, Recreation & Program Services, the Aquatics Coordinator, Operations will provide support and leadership to the aquatic team through knowledge of aquatic risk management techniques, effective client relations, a comprehensive response to issues as they arise, and resource development to operational services. In addition to a commitment to exceptional customer service and a positive customer experience, the Aquatics Coordinator, Operations must be highly organized, manage time effectively, and complete scheduling tasks in a timely and efficient manner.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage a staff of part-time staff throughout the year to ensure all staff are upholding Canada Games Centre standards at all times

Overall development and management of staff team including recruitment, hiring,

training, coaching, evaluating and scheduling of staff

Execute disciplinary action as required, including both verbal and written warnings

Ensure that employee performance meets or exceeds internal, provincial and national guidelines for lifeguarding and water safety to maintain a cohesive risk management strategy.

Work in conjunction with the Aquatics Coordinator, Programs to oversee the implementation and conduct of regular staff training.

Supervise both full-time and part-time employees ensuring human resource policies are adhered to (including ongoing performance appraisals), work in conjunction with the Manager, Recreation and Program Services with assigning tasks, workload, schedules, and responsibilities to ensure high quality service.

Provide immediate lifeguard and/or instructor coverage as required

Ensure quality services are provided to members and guests

Ensure Aquatic environment meet the legislated regulations for a Class A aquatic facility, as well as internally established policies and procedures,

Offer support to the Manager of Recreation & Program Services and the Operations Manager, with major facility issues,

Maintain documentation, records and checklists, including those for equipment and supplies management, maintenance reviews, statistics, incident reports, and iWork, ensuring implementation of appropriate follow up is conducted,

Update and maintain Aquatics Department Policies and Procedures, Safety Standards.

Review and upgrade emergency procedures on a regular basis

Assist with weekly payroll as required

Recognize and prevent hazardous situations

Reviewing and upgrading emergency procedures on a regular basis

Assist the Manager, Recreation & Program Services with aquatic facility bookings

Inventory control and ordering of aquatic supplies/equipment.

Work in conjunction with the Manager, Recreation & Program Services to create annual budget

Present positive public image through quality of work, appearance, and good public relations

Maintain contact with public so as to be readily available to respond to questions or concerns, handle customer inquiries with tact and diplomacy and respect

Take charge of emergency situations

Conduct when scheduled/ needed all the job description outlines of a Person on Duty,

Work on special projects

Other duties as assigned by the Manager, Recreation & Program Services

QUALIFICATIONS
Mandatory (to be maintained as a condition of employment)

· National Lifeguard Service Award (NLS) & Airway Management (Oxygen)

- Pool Option (Current within two years)

· Lifesaving Instructor (LSI)

· Swim for Life Instructor (SFL)

· Intermediate workplace First Aid (formerly SFA)

· National Lifeguard & First Aid Instructor

· Airway Management Instructor (formerly Oxygen)

· Instructor Trainer

· Examiner

· Experience in supervising, Mentoring & Coaching staff.

Desirable:

· HCP Provider

· WHMIS

· High Five Training

· Pool Operator's Course

· Aquatic Management Certificate

· SEE Auditor

· Lifesaving Sport experience

· Lifesaving Society National Trainer

· Experience with payroll

· 3 - 5 years' work experience in a senior aquatic role preferred.

WORKING HOURS

· This position is 35 hours per week, the current work schedule will be Sunday - Thursday with an evening shift (Wednesday) from 12-8pm.

· Additionally fulfill Person on Duty (POD) shifts 2:30pm to 10:30pm on rotational evenings and weekend as assigned

· Requirement to work flexible hours (early morning, day, evening, and weekends) including overtime and on call,

· Working environment includes physical, emotional, and mental demands on infrequent occasion,

· Safe lifting, carrying, and rescue techniques (use of a rescue aid in the water and coordination of rescue with a second rescuer, when possible, are required by the employer),

· Safe use of all protective / barrier equipment is required by the employer; and

· Exposure to loud noises and ability to concentrate in a busy environment.

Please note that a criminal record check and Child Abuse Registry check will be required as part of the hiring process.

COMPENSATION


Salary is $42,840 - $59,160 per annum, commensurate with education and level of experience.
