We are currently looking for a Senior Corporate Accountant to join our Corporate Accounting team in a permanent position. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Financial Reporting you are a key member of the Nova Scotia Power Finance team, and you will be responsible for providing financial analysis to influence business decisions across the organization and work with various departments within the organization.
Key elements of this role include:
- Supporting the month-end, quarter-end and year-end financial close processes to ensure financial results are complete and accurate.
- Preparation or review of various month-end balance sheet account reconciliations.
- Completion of internal control procedures.
- Processing of affiliate transactions and related reporting.
- Providing coaching and feedback to direct reports.
- Assisting Nova Scotia Power's external auditors through quarterly reviews and the annual audit.
- Working with other departments to provide and/or request information, as required.
- Other accounting, ad hoc, and special project responsibilities, as assigned.

These skills will make you successful:
- You recognize yourself in most of the following competencies, and where possible possess the skills and experience listed below:
- A University degree in finance or accounting with a minimum of five years of related experience and possess an accounting designation (CPA) or the desire to pursue an accounting designation (CPA).
- You will have experience with financial reporting systems and Microsoft Excel and be comfortable creating and analyzing spreadsheets.
- Knowledge of the Oracle EBS financial reporting system would be considered an asset.
- You must be highly motivated, detailed oriented and possess strong leadership, quantitative, analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.
- You can work in a fast-paced, deadline driven, team-focused environment with the ability to handle multiple deliverables and work independently under tight deadlines.
- As the successful candidate you also possess solid business acumen with a strong customer focus and are innovative, with the ability to identify and implement process improvements.
- A related combination of experience and education will be considered.
