Job SummaryThe Nursing Instructor II is a pivotal role within PHC, responsible for providing comprehensive educational support and training to clinical staff, ensuring proficiency in urgent care procedures, protocols, and policies. Operating under the guidance of the Manager of Urgent Care Services, this position requires extensive experience in nursing education, particularly within complex nursing environments such as Emergency Room (ER), Critical Care, or Acute Care settings. Key responsibilities of this position include development and implementation of orientation and training programs for new clinical staff, focusing on nursing competencies in urgent care procedures, protocols, and policies. Collaboration with the leadership team to develop curriculum and conduct initial education and training sessions for existing staff to enhance clinical skills and knowledge, covering topics such as Urgent Care processes, patient assessment, and treatment. Collaboration with the team to identify ongoing staff learning needs and develop tailored educational initiatives to address them effectively. Evaluation of the effectiveness of education and training programs through assessments, feedback mechanisms, and performance evaluations. Staying abreast of best practices, evidence-based guidelines, and regulatory requirements relevant to urgent care practice, integrating this knowledge into educational materials and programs. Providing mentorship and support to clinical staff, facilitating skills development, addressing performance issues, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth. Serving as a resource for patients and clinical staff, offering guidance, answering questions, and assisting with problem-solving related to patient care and clinical practice. Collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate specialized training or educational opportunities for patients and staff, as needed. Participation in team-based quality improvement and patient safety initiatives, and regulatory compliance activities related to clinical education and training. Contribution to the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure high-quality, safe, and efficient patient care delivery in the urgent care setting.

Regularly sits to perform computer related duties requiring fine finger/precision (i.e. research, policy and course development), while standing and walking are required to perform nursing education work in classroom, laboratory and clinical settings.
Visual and hearing concentration is required to observe or consult with staff, to work on documents or to listen to staff on the telephone or in person.
Job Qualifications
Graduation from an approved/recognized post-secondary nursing education program with a Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is required.
A current practicing license with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (CRNNL).
Minimum of five (5) years experience within the last seven (7) in an Urgent Care or Emergency Room environment is required.
Proficiency in utilizing patient triage and assessment tools (CTAS, NEWS2, ICU acuity scales, etc).
Knowledge of clinical documentation standards.
Experience in facilitating adult learning and teaching principles, preferably with a focus on the operation of inter-professional teams is an asset.
Experience in obtaining consensus through facilitating diverse groups.
Experience coordinating programs or services with multiple stakeholders including external partners.
Demonstrated knowledge of instructional development, delivery and evaluation and demonstrated clinical expertise.
Demonstrated ability to provide strong and comprehensive clinical support, training and mentorship to inter-professional teams.
Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills as demonstrated by presentations, facilitations and report-writing.
Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and able to work both collaboratively and with a high degree of independence and initiative.
Demonstrated effective time-management skills and the ability to prioritize.
Strong clinical knowledge and comprehensive medical background.
Proven skills in the areas of leadership, interpersonal relationships, teamwork, personal time management, critical thinking, problem solving, innovation and creativity, mentoring, program design, development and evaluation; Strong oral and written communication skills.
Must be self-directed, demonstrating initiative and ability to work with a high degree of independence.
Education skills and experience must be consistent with adult learning principles.
Proficient with computer programs such as Microsoft Office and Teams, as well as MedAccess EMR.
Possession of a valid Newfoundland and Labrador Class 5 Driver's License and access to a private vehicle.
A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
