The Centre for Nursing Studies (CNS) is the largest nursing school in Newfoundland and Labrador. Programs offered include a four-year BScN (Collaborative) Program and a LPN Bridging option, offered in partnership with Memorial University Faculty of Nursing and Western Regional School of Nursing, a five-semester Practical Nursing Program, Re-entry Programs for RNs and LPNs, an IEN Bridging Program, other international nursing initiatives, and Post-Basic Courses/Programs for RNs and LPNs.
Job Summary
Applications are invited for the temporary full-time position of Nursing Instructor I (NS-30). The successful applicant will facilitate nursing skills labs and clinical teaching of nursing students in adult acute care medical-surgical practice settings, which involves the planning, implementation, and evaluation of clinical courses offered by the CNS.
The position responsibilities include: primary responsibility will be organizing and teaching nursing skills labs; clinical teaching and evaluation of students in adult acute care medical-surgical practice settings; student remedial learning activities, and contribution to professional activities. Lifting and moving of training related equipment occurs regularly.
Sitting is required regularly to operate a computer; standing and walking are regularly required to conduct educational sessions/presentations.
Visual concentration is required to conduct research, enter and retrieve information from a variety of databases, to demonstrate technical clinical equipment, to observe nurses to evaluate effectiveness of learning or to evaluate correct performance of a task, etc.
Repetition requiring alertness is evident when repeating the same presentation; when performing data entry to ensure accurate information for reporting purposes, etc.
Graduation from an approved/recognized post-secondary nursing education program with a Baccalaureate degree in Nursing
Current practicing license with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (CRNNL)
Minimum of three years experience within the last five working as a nurse in an adult acute care medical-surgical practice area with at least one year of experience either as a teacher of entry-level or formal post-basic nursing education programs, which include lab and clinical, or as an adult educator. This would include experience with adult education course design, development, and evaluation in a health care setting.
The successful applicant must:
Demonstrated knowledge of instructional development, delivery and evaluation and demonstrated clinical expertise.
Skilled in providing strong and comprehensive clinical support, training and mentorship to students.
Exhibit strong oral and written communication skills as demonstrated by presentations, facilitations and report-writing.
Be self-motivated and able to work both collaboratively and with a high degree of independence and initiative.
Demonstrate effective time-management skills and the ability to prioritize. Possess proven leadership skills
Be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
