The Office of the Fire Marshal is responsible for designing and enforcing minimum technical safety standards in fire inspection and fire plans review. We administer Acts and Regulations involving fire inspections and fire plan review.

What you will do
The Department of Public Safety is seeking individuals to join the Office of the Fire Marshal as Plans Review Officers working in the Fredericton office.

The Office of the Fire Marshal is responsible for designing and enforcing minimum technical safety standards in fire inspection and fire plans review. We administer Acts and Regulations involving fire inspections and fire plan review.

As a member of the Fire Inspection Program, the successful candidate will be responsible to provide fire plan review and fire inspection performed under the Fire Prevention Act. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing construction building plans for new construction and renovations for projects which require a submission to the Office of the Fire Marshal prior to the start of construction; hold or attend meetings with designers, developers, contractors, owners, etc. during the initial project design stage, preliminary stage and occasionally on site visits during construction; review reports, proposals during the design stage; provide technical support to Provincial Fire Prevention Officers and municipal fire inspectors; site inspections as required to deal with unusual or large projects, fire pump tests, smoke control tests or problems on site; provide AHJ interpretations/rulings for FPA regulations, National Building/Fire Codes and their referenced codes/standards; and work with/meet regularly with Social Development, the Department of Education and the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure to address problems and new/special projects. The successful candidate must be familiar with a wide and varied range of technical material and able to quickly review information and make a sound decision.

  • Standard hours of work: Monday - Friday, 8:15-4:30

Need to have

  • Designated as a Certified Engineering Technologist "CET" or Professional Technologist PTech or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years of related work experience
  • Knowledge of the National Building Code and National Fire Code
  • Successful candidates will be required to undergo a criminal history clearance and security clearance check.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Nice to Have

  • Posses NFPA Certified Fire Plan Examiner Certificate
  • NFPA Certified Fire Protection Specialist Certificate

Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application one or more of the asset qualifications in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration.

Wage
$2,341 to $3,098 bi-weekly
