HEALTH CARE CONSULTANT – NB BLOOD SYSTEM

The Department of Health is seeking an individual to join the Acute Care Branch as a Health Care Consultant for the New Brunswick Blood Coordination Program, in Fredericton.
Reporting to the Director of Professional Services, the successful candidate will be a member of a multidisciplinary team working in a challenging, fast-paced work environment.
As the Health Care Consultant, you will be responsible for:
- Providing advice and consultation to the Department of Health on aspects pertinent to New Brunswick's Blood System;
- Aligning provincial transfusion medicine policies with national guidelines and other provinces and territories;
- Providing advice and support to the Regional Health Authorities and other key stakeholders on the planning and development of effective policies and programs related to transfusion medicine, in order to meet or exceed industry standards of practice;
- Planning, monitoring, evaluating and supporting the consistent implementation of transfusion practices, utilization and emergency management, adverse event surveillance, standards and regulatory guidelines;
- Working closely with other healthcare system partners, including the Regional Health Authorities and Canadian Blood Services to ensure the safety of the NB Blood Program;
- Representing NB on various committees at both the provincial and national level;
- Establishing & maintaining working relationships with key national organizations involved in blood product management and transfusion medicine and representing NB with these organizations' activities as needed;
- Other duties as deemed appropriate by the Director.

Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science;
- Six (6) years of related experience in the area of medical laboratory science;
- Experience in Transfusion medicine and the operation and management of clinical laboratories;
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
- Written and spoken competence in English and French is required. Please state your language capability on your application.
Necessary Special Requirement:
- Must be an active member of the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science as well as licensed with the New Brunswick Society of Medical Laboratory Technologists.

In the event that this competition poses difficulties in recruiting a qualified candidate, a covering off appointment at a lower level may be made. In that case, candidates with less than the required related years of experience may also be considered.
Asset Qualifications: Preference may be given to candidates who possess one or more of the following asset qualifications:
- Project Management or Program Development
- Knowledge of the healthcare system in New Brunswick

Salary: $76,622 to $101,920 per annum (Pay Band 6)
