We are currently looking for a Senior Data Analyst to join our Customer and Grid Intelligence team, reporting to the Manager, Data Insights & Analytics. As a senior member of the Data Insights & Analytics Team you will play a vital role in leveraging data to inform customer insights, optimize operations, enhance efficiency, and drive strategic decision-making. You will contribute to the data analytics practice in Nova Scotia Power through ongoing collaboration with data and business leaders across the organization to develop innovative, value-based solutions for customers. This important role exists within the Customer & Grid Intelligence team of Nova Scotia Power.


Key elements of this role include:
  • Identify, collect, and transform datasets into actionable insights using statistical techniques, machine learning models, and predictive analytics.
  • Design and implement predictive models and algorithms that deliver value for customers, support grid reliability, and optimize operational performance.
  • Build dashboards, visualizations, interfaces, and reports that effectively communicate complex analytical results to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues from variety of business domains including customer service, engineering, operations, asset management, and IT.
  • Ability to work within an agile framework to prototype, test, and refine solutions at pace.
  • Promote best practices in data science and analytics, including code quality, version control, MLOps, and collaboration tools.
  • Stay updated with the latest trends, technologies, and methodologies in data science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and identify opportunities to apply them to enhance processes and products.

To thrive in this role, you recognize yourself in most of the following competencies and skills listed below:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related analytical field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years in a professional data analytics role or equivalent.
  • Previous experience with data modeling or analysis in database systems, including programming and algorithm development.
  • Experience analyzing large data sets to identify gaps and inconsistencies.
  • Knowledge of statistical sampling techniques, regression, and time-series analysis.
  • Experience with data visualization using Tableau, PowerBI, and/or other visual analytics tools is required.
  • Experience with data analysis tools and languages such as Excel, Python, R, SQL, etc.
  • Industry experience in utility grid operations and customer programming is considered an asset.
  • Capacity to work and communicate findings with a range of stakeholders, including proficiency at written and verbal communication and an ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts.
