Electrical and Instrumentation Supervisor is responsible for the electrical maintenance of Halifax Water treatment facilities, water system pumping stations, water distribution facilities and wastewater collections facilities and responsible for the calibration and maintenance of instruments and other hardware used to support operation of water and wastewater facilities.

- Organize, co-ordinate and supervise the day-to-day work of technical services staff in carrying duties and responsibilities described below.
- Participate in a variety of management activities including hiring, performance management, discipline, budgeting processes and labour relations matters. Operate within budgets.
- Read and interpret drawings and electrical code specifications to determine layout of industrial electrical equipment installations. Assist with the review of design drawings for capital and other construction projects. Supervises the calibration of system master flow meters.
- Responsible for the maintenance, repair and adjustment of electrical systems for water and wastewater piped systems, pumping stations and treatment plants.
- Comply with Occupational Health and Safety Act to ensure staff are working in compliance with applicable regulations and Halifax Water policies and procedures.
- Responsible for the electrical operation and maintenance of water system pumping stations, pressure reducing valve and metering chambers.
- Ensure all responsibilities related to electrical systems are met as it pertains to the ISO 14001 compliant Environmental Management Systems where applicable to Halifax Water facilities.
- Provide technical support in the review of electrical and control equipment in treatment plants, pumping stations, PRVs and other facilities operated by Halifax Water.
- Provide technical advice and information regarding pumping, SCADA equipment, metering and communications systems, and operational requirements to consultants and others as required.
- Co-ordinate the removal and installation of equipment during repair activities and co- ordinate shut downs and start-ups.
- Work with Water/Wastewater operations staff in emergency situations, as required, to maintain continuous operation of electrical equipment.
- Recommend scheduling of major electrical equipment upgrades or replacements to the Manager of Technical Services, ensuring communication of relevant information to regional superintendents and other Halifax Water asset owners.
- Assist Managers and Supervisors in the maintenance and calibration of instrumentation, as well as selections and repair of equipment, emergency operations and other technical issues as required.
- Assist in the installation start-up and commissioning of new station equipment and controls.
- Ensures assigned staff follow safe work practices and receive appropriate training.
- Perform other related duties as may be assigned.
- Education:
- Two year technical program related to process control, instrumentation, SCADA and communications or Journeyman Construction/Industrial Electrician with additional training/experience in PLC's, SCADA, and communication.
- Experience:
- Minimum of five years related experience in a utility operations environment
- Certificates / Licenses / Registrations:
- Certified Electrical Engineering Technologist or Journeyman Electrician
- Must have a valid NS Driver's license.
- Will be required to undertake and maintain valid First Aid, WHMIS, Confined Space Entry, Traffic Control and Hazard Identification training.
