The Opportunity

We are currently seeking an Engineer in Training to join our Mines Technical Services Team in Thompson, Manitoba. This is a permanent on-site position.

Relocation to Thompson, Manitoba will be required for this role.

In this role you will work to build and maintain relationships and interact with other technical staff, supervision, and hourly employees. The position will involve regular trips underground and on surface in the field to visit existing mining areas and audit practices related to ground control.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Develop various designs and engineering prints for the operations team including development driving layouts, drilling/blasting, raisebore and service holes.
  • Daily tracking of mining activities and analysis of rates to optimize scheduled activities
  • Schedule weekly and monthly mining activities ensuring production targets are being met
  • Collaboration with technical services group as well as operations team on design parameters, scheduled activities and safety
  • Present information and schedule to technical services and operations teams.
  • Stope performance audits and data collection and analysis to optimize designs
  • Involvement in ground support and ventilation to plan mining activities and constraining processes

About You

Education:

  • Engineering degree in Mine Engineering with a Professional Engineering Designation Preferred.
  • Eligible for registration as a licensed professional engineer with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba
Experience:
  • 1-2 years of related technical experience, preferably at an existing operating mine (underground mine or open pit).

Skills:

  • Strong initiative and excellent safety record are essential
  • Proficiency in MS Office and experience with CAD systems for mine design and planning preferred
  • Ability to prepare and present material on ground control, and work on mining proposals
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to work in an underground environment required
