Senior Portfolio Management Officer, Portfolio Management - Scotia Leasing, Canadian Business Banking

Purpose


In this role you will be responsible for end-to-end portfolio management and financial accounting of Scotia Leasing products, from initial booking through to contract expiry.


This position contributes to the overall success of Scotia Leasing by ensuring accurate reporting and adherence to regulatory and accounting standards. It involves providing outstanding service to Scotia Leasing clients and dedicated support to internal partners across Commercial, Corporate, Business Banking, SAMU, Private Banking, and the Business Service Centre.


This role requires problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to financial challenges, ensuring specific individual goals, plans, and initiatives are executed/delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives.


Accountabilities:


Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.


• Working collaboratively with partners to complete customer requests.
• Keeping the bank safe by working within the Bank's guidelines.

Portfolio Management: The incumbent is responsible for managing all transactional change requirements in the portfolio:


• Interpret customer queries, re-structure transactions, and prepare necessary documentation for all Leasing products.
• Support and educate Branch/BBO personnel on portfolio administration and handle reports and problem accounts
• Follow procedures for preparing various documents, monitor delinquent accounts, and process mid-term adjustments.
• Issue payout calculations, provide balance inquiries, and handle all leasing portfolio inquiries (phone or email).
• Provide extraordinary customer service to Scotia Leasing customers and Branches.

Accounting:


• Maintain the Scotia Leasing General Ledger in accordance with accounting standards and Bank policies.
• Perform daily cash accounting, posting, and accounting packages. Conduct account activity analysis and reconciliations.
• Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, manage the general ledger, month-end close, and financial reports.
• Book FX transactions using ScotiaFX platform.
• Prepare PST/GST/HST accounting and sales tax schedules/reporting. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
• Liaise with Canadian Banking Finance, Taxation, Executive, auditors, and others as required.

Education / Experience / Other Information:


Education:

• Post Secondary Education / University Degree with an Accounting focus
• Working towards an accounting designation (CPA, CMA, CGA, or CA) is a strong asset

Skills / Experience:

• 3+ years of experience in an Accounting / Finance role required
• Knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, CCA classes, Taxation (Federal and Provincial), banking regulations, and Leasing/Lending Products would be an asset.
• Driven to build strong relationships - flexibility to adapt to environment and business needs.
• Curiosity to uncover ways to assist our customers and partners to achieve their goals.
• Willingness to complete industry related courses needed for the role which Scotiabank will support through tuition reimbursement and focused learning groups.
• Understanding of equipment leasing, including documentation, accounting procedures, tax and legal ramifications, and special policies highly desirable.
• Strong analytical, critical thinking, verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Administrative, organizational, and decision-making skills to manage high volumes of activities.
• Intermediate to Advanced proficiency with Excel - proficiency with other Microsoft Office programs
• Ability to work under pressure and deliver high customer service standards.

Working Conditions:


• Work in a standard office-based environment: currently a Hybrid work arrangement is in place which is subject to change based on the needs of the business.
• Non-standard hours are a common occurrence.
