THE POSITION:
The Halifax Convention Centre and Scotiabank Centre managed by Events East Group is now inviting applications for the position of Event Shift Lead with our Guest Experience team.
Reporting to the Guest Experience Manager, the Event Shift Lead (ESL) is scheduled during events and is responsible for on-site oversight of the Guest Experience Team members (Event Attendants, Guest Experience Associates, Premium Seating Associates) at Scotiabank Centre and Halifax Convention Centre. The Shift Lead is responsible for consistent delivery of products and services while on shift, during events.
The role of Event Shift Lead is part-time, and scheduling is event-based. During times of lower event activity, ESLs will have the opportunity to be scheduled as Event Attendants, Guest Experience Associates, and Premium Seating Associates at the prevailing rates for those roles.
THE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operations:
- Provide floor supervision of the team when scheduled for a shift in this role.
- Support the day-to-day execution of events to manage people movement and support wayfinding.
- Delegate, manage and assign breaks to team members, ensuring adequate coverage; redeploy associates as required to ensure efficient use of resources and covering positions as needed.
- Provide clarification to team members as required to ensure performance is aligned with event needs and organizational standards and expectations.
- Act as team liaison and engage with other operational departments and the Event Manager as needed, while on shift, including the escalation of event-related issues and concerns.
- Work in collaboration with the Building Services Manager, while on shift, to ensure areas remain clean, tidy and free of obstacles.
- Address the needs of diverse staff guests in sensitive and confidential situations.
- Engage professionally with guests, dignitaries and VIPs in challenging social interactions.
- Retain and use event information to assist guests.
Administration:
- Complete incident reports as necessary.
- Complete end of shift reports and submit them to management.
- Retain relevant knowledge of current and upcoming events at both of our venues.
Leadership:
- Fulfill duties in the event of emergency responses when necessary; be knowledgeable of Events East's Emergency Procedures at both venues.
- Update management on shift/floor issues, the status of team members, and performance concerns, escalating serious issues immediately, as required.
- Lead by example to promote departmental and organizational values and standards within the team.
- Demonstrate and promote respect in the workplace on each shift.
- Act as a role model for all employees by following Events East policies, procedures and values.
Training & Development:
- Assist in the training and onboarding of new staff.
- Provide in-the-moment performance coaching and feedback to team members, ensuring that feedback provided to the associate is recorded and given to the Manager.
Health & Safety:
- Report all safety hazards to the direct supervisor as soon as is reasonably possible. Take action to correct the safety hazard if possible and reasonable.
- Report all incidents and near misses to the direct supervisor as soon as is reasonably possible. Participate fully in the incident and near miss investigation procedure.
- Create, promote, and follow all departmental standards and guidelines, job procedures, and equipment operation protocols to continuously ensure the safety of oneself, team members, and clients.
- Wear, use, and ensure the appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required, report any issues or violations within the team or onsite to the direct supervisor.
- Report any damaged PPE to the direct supervisor, promptly.

THE PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience:
- Minimum one year of supervisory experience in customer service and/or hospitality.
- Grade 12 preferred.
- Basic technology skills including iPhone and Android apps and Microsoft programs.
Physical Demands:
- Long periods standing; required to move throughout the venue; ability to repeatedly climb stairs.
- May be required to work long shifts 10 - 12 hours, including variable shifts of evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Other physical demands as required.
- Fast paced, busy environment with variable conditions including noise, heights, and dark/dim lighting.
