Definition of Work:The Regional Addictions Coordinator is a highly responsible and clinical leadership position that provides both specialized and unique professional addictions work. The successful candidate will have a dual role; providing assessment, intervention to individuals/groups/family members, as well as providing health promotion, education and prevention programming. This work involves consulting and advising with other professional staff in areas of clinical expertise and participating in strategic planning. The successful candidate will also be involved in researching, developing, delivering and evaluating health promotion activities. This position will involve significant work with community agencies and therefore developing partnerships with this agencies will be key. The successful candidate will be an integral member of an interdisciplinary team.
The incumbent must have considerable knowledge of Best Practice Standards in the area of addictions and concurrent disorders, as well as in health promotion/addictions prevention. The successful candidate provides referral and follow up for clients to outside agencies both within and outside of the province; accepts referrals from various providers; provides necessary liaison pertaining to treatment planning; consults with other professionals and community groups regarding programming and treatment issues and supports self-help, consumer, and caregiver initiatives. The Addictions Counsellor I will be expected to provide “Door Ways” services as required. The incumbent will provide preventive services based on a population health approach.
This position reports to the Regional Manager of Mental Health and Addictions Services. Due to the regional nature of this position, regional travel is a part of this role. The successful candidate will be committed to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and client/patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks, and implementing improvements
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Social Work Degree, Masters in Clinical Psychology or Graduates Degree in a Clinical Discipline.
• Eligibility for registration with a professional regulatory body.
• 2 years current experience (within the last 5 years) in an addictions and/or mental health setting.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience of professional addictions and concurrent disorder, Best Practice Standards as it relates to assessment, treatment, planning, counselling, and evaluation.
• Demonstrated ability in skill assessment, interviewing and crisis intervention techniques, social work programming, and delivery methods.
• Demonstrated analytical, as well as, oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated independence, initiative, and ability to work with others.
• Use of a private vehicle and valid driver license are a condition of employment.

• Satisfactory Record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
• A satisfactory certificate of conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.
