As part of the Relay and Telecom team, the Protection and Control Technician is responsible to pre-commission, commission, modify, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain NB Power's system relaying protection network used in the generation, transmission, and control of electrical power within the province and to interconnecting utilities.
Key functions include:
• Commission, maintain, test, and calibrate system relaying equipment
• Maintain up-to-date system relay engineering drawings and provide input and information necessary to ensure records and materials are kept up to date.
• Assess the impact of field work on the power system and coordinate with other work groups to facilitate energizing protection equipment.
The ideal teammate will have:
• Graduate OR on track to graduate in June 2025 from the Electrical / Electronic Engineering Technology (Diploma) program
• Valid Class 5 driver's license (successful candidate will be required to submit an updated drivers abstract)
Please note, for qualified applicants there will be a written technical test prior to the in-person interviews. You must obtain a score of 50% or higher in order to move on to the in-person interview.
An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be modified.
An Eligibility List generated from this competition may be used to fill future vacancies at the same level within a period of up to 12 months.
Due to security requirements of our North American Electric Reliability Corporate (NERC) standards, the successful candidate will be required to arrange a Criminal Record name check through the RCMP and provide the results to NB Power.
