Responsibilities

Reporting to the Business Development Operations Manager for Professional and Part Time Learning, the Fire Services Coordinator supports the delivery of training to Fire Fighters in New Brunswick, aligning the curriculum with current standards and training materials. The Coordinator, in consultation with nine Provincial Volunteer Fire Fighters Associations, identifies qualified instructors to deliver courses and develop an annual training calendar.

Key Responsibilities -

  • Provide excellent customer service - Build and maintain excellent relations with the volunteer Association Training Coordinators, the NB Association of Fire Chiefs, NB Office of Fire Marshal and others to ensure that the services offered meet their needs and fulfill the Provincial Fire Services mandate.
  • Coordinate Delivery of Training - Work with the Regional Associations to develop a training calendar for the year, including acquiring necessary facilities, equipment, and instructor resources.
  • Provide Training Material - In conjunction with the Fire Services Curriculum Assistant, ensure all training material, curriculum and standards information are up to date and available to Regional Association, in both official languages. Ensure the examination process is controlled and completed examinations are returned to NBCC.
  • Coordinate Instructor Training - Ensure Instructors receive Instructor training prior to being added to the roster.
  • Records Management - In conjunction with the Fire Services Administrative Assistant, ensure that all Fire Fighters attending training courses are entered into the Student Information Management System for tracking, grades and verification of course completion.
  • Contract Management - Ensure contracts or agreements are followed with Oklahoma State University, College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology (CEAT) and Fire Protection Publications (FPP), and possible others including ordering, translation and payment for books and materials received as per the contract.
  • Financial Management - In conjunction with the Fire Services Administrative Assistant, ensure that all payments for services provided by local Fire Fighter Instructors for time and expenses are properly reconciled and accounted for in a timely manner.
  • Support the Annual Workshop - working with the Annual Fire Services Workshop Committee, provide support in the form of registration, event planning, training material and facilities as required.
  • Fire Service Training Site - Ensure the coordination of daily maintenance and operations of the Fire Service training grounds is up to standards. Testing of equipment is done and booking of the facilities and training props.
  • Mobile Burns Unit (MBU) - Ensure that the MBU policies and procedures are followed while working with the Mobile Unit coordinator.
Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Diploma or Degree with related years of work experience.
  • Certification in Firefighter 1.
  • Preference may be given to those with 3 years' experience in Fire Fighting.
  • Oral and written communication skills in both English and French (French being an asset as we translate from English to French predominantly) and experience in translation of documents.
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office suite (word, excel, power point, teams, etc.).

Assets:

  • Demonstrated firefighting experience is considered an asset.
  • Experience with project management.

Other combinations of education and experience may be considered as equivalent. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be raised.
