As a Site Reliability Engineeringteam member, you will be responsible for being a practitioner for the physical hardware configurations and virtualization solutions across Medavie. This role will ensure that all best practices are encouraged, adopted, and applied to the Medavie infrastructure and development projects of all types. This will be achieved by learning, adapting, and encouraging new processes and technologies throughout Medavie IT. This position is within the Medavie Shared Services IT team and will be working with IT staff across Medavie Inc., Medavie Blue Cross, Medavie Health Services, and our partner Blue Cross organizations.

At Medavie, a Site Reliability Engineering team member will also be responsible for learning and supporting the shift towards DevOps practices including the automation and implementation of routine maintenance tasks of our physical and virtual environment, support and troubleshooting issues on our server infrastructure, operational and project-specific solutions for internal objectives, and other routine and emergency tasks.

This role will also ensure continuous support of implemented technologies including, and not limited to, on-call rotations, patching, after-hours implementation, and application development team support. This role shares focus between 1) physical hardware and virtualization and 2) containerization and automation. The successful candidate will have experience in managing physical server installation and configuration (ie. 'rack and stack'), the development or implementation of DevOps pipelines, specifically in the deployment of critical virtualization and maintenance solutions, and with virtualization solutions such as VMware and Hyper-V.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supports the design, development, and documentation, of the deployment management policy, process, and some procedures
  • Supports the assessment, analysis, planning and design of release deployment packages, including assessment of risk and audit compliance
  • Contributes to the availability management process and its operation. Performs defined availability management tasks
  • Ensures that services and components meet and continue to meet all their agreed performance targets and service levels
  • Work with Unix, Windows, Platform Engineering, Network, Database, and other infrastructure teams to implement end-to-end solutions
  • Ensure monitoring and self healing strategies are implemented and maintained to proactively prevent client disruptions
  • Leverage and implement virtualization and infrastructure for repeatable delivery and highly available client solutions
  • Respond to service requests, interact with internal teams, provide technical support, and provision the necessary server infrastructure services and components for various projects

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

Education: University degree or college diploma.

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum 5+ years in a datacentre operations/system administration role.
  • 2+ years of experience working with physical hardware in a datacentre (servers, networks and cabling, storage).
  • 5+ years of experience with virtualization solutions, including VMware vSphere.
  • 2+ years of experience with server administration (Windows and Linux).
  • 3+ years of experience in datacentre management and disaster recovery solutions/technologies.

Security Clearance Requirement: In conjunction with our contract with the Federal Government, you will be required to have Reliability Status Clearance (Enhanced Level B). This includes Fingerprinting, Criminal Record Check, Credit Check and you must have resided in Canada for at least 5 years and hold Permanent Resident or Citizenship Status.
