The Opportunity
The Manager, Application Development is responsible for leading and delivering IT services to internal Medavie departments across all locations. This role requires a highly motivated individual who values superior customer service, understands our technologies, and possesses strong leadership, management, and coordination skills. The ideal candidate will be proactive in identifying opportunities for improvement, adept at managing complex projects, and skilled in fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment. They will play a crucial role in ensuring the stability, security, and performance of our applications, while also driving strategic initiatives to support the organization's long-term goals.

This role can be work-from-home or hybrid, with expectations of travel to the Moncton, NB Head Office and the Etobicoke, ON office location several times per year. Ideally, the incumbent is located in Ontario or Eastern Canada .

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership:

  • Support and guide a team of Technology Professionals.
  • Foster excellent communication, collaboration, and high performance.
  • Ensure capacity for operational activities and strategic initiatives.
  • Monitor and communicate team progress.
  • Plan and oversee team activities and project delivery.
  • Develop necessary competencies within the product line.

Technology Ownership:

  • Identify system needs and assist in setting priorities.
  • Inform users of requirements for initiatives.
  • Act as a key stakeholder in corporate projects.
  • Ensure adherence to departmental methodologies.
  • Provide stable, secure, and performant applications.
  • Maintain a prioritized product roadmap.
  • Make product decisions in the best interest of the business and users.
  • Present recommendations to stakeholders and senior leaders.
  • Collaborate to create business cases and secure funding for improvements.

Collaboration with Business and IT Partners:

  • Build strong relationships with business partners.
  • Collaborate with IT partners for cohesive service delivery.
  • Identify user needs and product gaps.
  • Understand business goals and product requirements.
  • Develop the product's long-term vision and strategy.

Financial Responsibility:

  • Manage within assigned budget.
  • Optimize capital resources for projects.
  • Support Change Request/Enhancement work and product line growth.

COMMUNICATION: Engage frequently with internal teams, including business partners, analysts, architects, developers, quality analysts, technical services, incident management, infrastructure partners, team leaders, project managers, managers, directors, and senior management teams (SMT). Additionally, interact with external contacts such as vendors/providers and clients as required.

INNOVATION: The Manager, Application Development is dedicated to delivering high-value, innovative solutions that meet the evolving needs of the business. This role involves facilitating process reviews with team members and subject matter experts to identify areas for improvement. Strong communication skills are essential for effectively conveying ideas through emails, documentation, and presentations. The Manager will leverage their subject matter knowledge to formulate and recommend process improvements, ensuring that decisions are balanced, and enhancements are implemented effectively.

SUPERVISION: Directly supervise 5-10 team members, including Team Leaders, Analysts, Senior Developers/Architects, and External Consultants.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

Education: University degree or Community College diploma in Computer Science or a similar program.

Experience: 10+ years' experience in the IT industry with a proven track record in leading and supervising IS professionals in a complex and diverse systems environment.

  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, facilitation, and presentation skills.
  • Working knowledge of Software Engineering Process.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and activities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Highly effective listening skills.
  • Proficiency in English (written & spoken) required, Bilingual (English & French) an asset.

Security Clearance Requirement: In conjunction with our contract with the Federal Government, you will be required to have Reliability Status Clearance (Enhanced Level B). This includes Fingerprinting, Criminal Record Check, Credit Check and you must have resided in Canada for at least 5 years and hold Permanent Resident or Citizenship Status.
