Job SummaryThis is an advanced, clinical practice and leadership position providing social work services to the clients of the Mental Health and Addictions Program in the West End of the city and surrounding areas. This position works in an interdisciplinary team which provides individual, group, couples and family counselling for a wide array of mental health issues in a Stepped Care Service Delivery Model. The Social Worker provides therapy using a broad range of theoretical frameworks and professional analysis of complex situations. The Social Worker may provide consultation to other areas of the mental health program. This position exercises a significant degree of independent clinical judgment in determining appropriate intervention strategies and in developing, implementing and evaluating treatment goals for individuals, couples and families. Group work is a requirement. Other duties may include education, advocacy and research. The Social Worker III will be required to do occasional shifts, on a rotational basis, at the DoorWays walk in counselling clinic.
This position reports to the Program Manager for the West End Mental Health and Addictions Team and maintains accountability to the Social Work Professional Practice Consultant for professional integrity and practice issues.

Occasionally there is lifting or physical strength required to carry boxes of resources/materials, flip charts and audio-visual equipment up to 15 lbs.
Occasionally work demands result in considerable fatigue requiring periods of rest.

Regularly uses fine finger/precision work to enter information into computer systems.
Visual and auditory concentration is required when reviewing client files/notes and for documenting work into computerized systems.
A higher-than-normal level of attentiveness and carefulness is required when assessing clients, especially those who may be at a high risk, in order to ensure their health and safety, staff's safety, and to prevent any possible dangers or hazards from happening.
Lack of control over the work pace and time pressures can occur when completing assessments, case documentation and workload reports, managing emergency and routine appointments within the allocated timeframe.
Occasionally there are interruptions due to a crisis situation.
Job Qualifications
Graduation with a Clinical or Integrated Master's degree in Social Work from an accredited program with the MSW field placement in a clinical practice is required.
Current and continuing registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Social Workers (NLCSW) is required.
Minimum of five years of experience within the last seven working as a Social Worker in a mental health and addictions program is required.
Experience with individual, family, couples and group therapy is required.
Experience with brief therapy modalities is an asset.
ASIST training is an asset.
Knowledge of relevant legislation, including but not limited to, Mental Health Care and Treatment Act, Adult Protection Act, Advanced Health Care Directives Act, Medical Assistance in Dying, and the Children, Youth and Families Act.
Knowledge of the Recovery Model.
Knowledge of mental health, addictions, concurrent disorders, trauma and associated treatment.
Knowledge of community resources in the areas of both mental health and addictions.
Knowledge of crisis interventions and supportive counseling.
Knowledge of case management.
Demonstrated strong clinical leadership skills.
Demonstrated ability to direct, supervise and mentor students.
Exhibited strong program development and evaluation skills.
Demonstrated proven analytical, critical thinking, problem solving, decision-making and organizational and research skills.
