Rothesay Netherwood School (1877) is an independent, co-educational boarding and day school for Grades 6 to 12 that offers innovative, world-class learning experiences in a safe and caring school community. The Director of Human Resources (HR) will be an integral member of the Senior Management Team (SMT) and, as such, will act as a strategic advisor to the Head of School and members of the SMT, providing valuable support to the RNS community while streamlining HR operations and fostering a positive workplace culture. The person in this role will provide vision, leadership, and overall direction for a full range of strategic human resource functions across the organization. They will manage recruitment, onboarding, and employee relations, ensuring the school attracts, develops, and retains top talent. They will also ensure that school policies and practices represent best practice across the country, are compliant with all labour laws, and promote employee engagement while reducing risk for the community. The School is launching its 2025-2030 Strategic Plan, and the Director of HR will play a crucial role in keeping school leaders focused on strategic priorities while enhancing operational efficiency, promoting well-being, supporting change management, and strengthening the overall functioning and sustainability of the organization. An employee-first approach will be a key driver for decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organizational Culture & Values
    • Working collaboratively with the SMT to enhance a positive, engaged workplace culture that promotes belonging, value, and recognition.
    • Developing, updating, and communicating employee policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure alignment, understanding, and a high degree of professionalism.
  • Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (Pluralism)
    • Fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture.
    • Enhancing employee engagement to create awareness centred on valuing and optimizing people's differences and creating a sense of belonging in recognizing their unique contributions.
  • Strategic Priorities
    • Bringing strategic leadership and acumen to create and deliver human resources and organizational effectiveness strategies to support the School's Strategic Plan, as well as the Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • Talent Acquisition and Performance Management
    • Implementing programs to help all employees develop their maximum potential through performance management, coaching, and professional development.
    • Identifying and developing leaders.
    • Building strategic people programs, including wellness initiatives to promote the well-being of all employees.
    • Leading and supporting a talent acquisition process to attract, develop, retain, and engage high-quality employees.
  • Human Resources Systems & Compliance
    • Ensuring compliance, commitment, and knowledge of regulations and best practices in employment law, human resources, and talent management.
    • Managing internal communications for all human resource-related activities.
    • Provide relevant HR updates and reports to the SMT and the Board.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in a related field such as HR or business management with 10 years experience.
  • A proven track record as a high performer, including HR leadership and people management.
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing HR strategic plans for growth, talent management, and/or business development, including creating and leading initiatives to attract, develop, and retain high-potential talent.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with senior leaders, employees, and external stakeholders.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in technology, especially with MS Office and Google Suite.
