Job Title: Health Services Educator (0.5 FTE)
Location: East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash, NS
Reports To: Director of Resident Care
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and in alignment with NSNU salary scale.

Position Overview:

East Cumberland Lodge (ECL) is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Educator to support the ongoing professional development of staff and the delivery of in-service education. This role is instrumental in advancing excellence in health care service delivery by fostering a culture of continuous learning, compliance, and best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

Education & Training Delivery:

Plan, coordinate, and deliver in-service training sessions across health and safety, healthcare compliance, licensing standards, and resident care practices.

Maintain accurate records of staff participation, outcomes, and competencies.

Ensure timely and effective onboarding and orientation of new staff.

· Curriculum Development & Evaluation:

o Design and update educational materials aligned with provincial regulations, evidence-based practices, and organizational policies.

o Utilize the Learning Management System (LMS) to deliver engaging learning modules, monitor staff participation, and assess the effectiveness of curriculum delivery.

o Leverage LMS analytics to track learner engagement, course effectiveness, and knowledge retention, enabling data-driven improvements to education programs.

o Support staff in navigating the LMS and promote its use as a central resource for ongoing learning and professional development.

Compliance & Quality Assurance:

Monitor ongoing staff compliance with mandatory training and licensing requirements.

Identify education gaps and develop responsive strategies to ensure continued knowledge acquisition and regulatory adherence.

Collaboration & Leadership:

Work closely with the allied health care team, leadership, and external educators to coordinate multidisciplinary learning opportunities.

Act as a resource to staff with health-related procedures, documentation standards, and best practice guidelines.

Qualifications:

Diploma or degree in Health Sciences, Nursing, or Education (with relevant healthcare experience).

Minimum 2 years of experience in a healthcare education or leadership role.

Experience with adult education principles, in-service education, and curriculum design.

Familiarity with learning management systems (e.g., Itacit ).

Knowledge of Nova Scotia licensing and compliance standards in long-term care or healthcare settings.

Exceptional communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.

Assets:

Certification in adult education or a related instructional credential.

Experience working in a unionized, long-term care, or interdisciplinary environment.

Working Conditions:

On-site at East Cumberland Lodge, with flexible hours aligned to a 0.5 FTE (approx. 20 hours/week). Three days in one week and two days the next per pay period.

Occasional evenings or weekend sessions may be required based on training needs.
