Duties

The Employee Relations & Disability Management Lead provides Human Resources expertise, support, advice and guidance to all departments and employees of the city in all areas of Human Resources and plays a crucial role in supporting employees and fostering a positive work environment. The position provides day to day support and coaching to the management teams on all employee and labour relations matters, collective agreement administration and disability management.

This position develops strategic relationships by building relationships of trust with both management and union leadership. It advises, coaches and works collaboratively with the management teams on all aspects of "people" interventions, thereby assisting them to efficiently manage their staff to achieve strategic objectives. The employee Relations & Disability Management Officer supports the entire life cycle of our employees, utilizing exceptional communication skills to partner closely with senior leaders to ensure a smooth and consistent flow of people related services to management and staff.

Qualifications

· Undergraduate Degree in Human Resources, Labour Relations, Psychology, Business Administration with a focus in Human Resources, and/or other related education.

· 5+ years of experience in a Human Resources Generalist role, preferably in a unionized environment.

· Expertise in labour and employee relations, disability management and collective agreement administration.

· Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation is an asset but is not required.

· Experience working in a unionized environment and the public sector.

· Knowledgeable in employment law and standards, case law, human rights legislation and worker's compensation legislation.

· Aptitude to use tact, diplomacy, discretion and emotional intelligence to create dialogue and trust and the ability to maintain high confidentiality.
