WorkSafeNB is seeking an Ergonomist. The area of coverage would primarily encompass St. Stephen to Sussex and north to Fredericton. Depending on the ergonomic needs, there may be a requirement for additional coverage throughout the province. Reporting to the Manager, Occupational Hygiene and Ergonomics, you will improve health and safety in New Brunswick workplaces by identifying the environmental factors or stressors that may result in injury, illness, impairment, or affect the well-being of workers. Evaluate the interactions between humans and other elements of a system (environment, people and object) to optimize human-well-being, improve system performance and reduce the risk of injuries for employees.

Your key areas of responsibility are as follows:

• Providing subject matter expertise and educate stakeholders (internal and external) on all matters related to human factors/ergonomics by preparing and presenting interpretations of the validated science and research in human factors/ergonomics to direct the injury reduction actions of the WorkSafeNB staff, committees, and external clients and stakeholders.
• Improving human well-being and overall system performance by evaluating and analyzing workstations/tasks/jobs/work processes to reduce injury risk and optimize human well-being and system performance.
• Investigating injuries that occur at workplaces to determine root cause(s) and stipulate specific controls to prevent future injuries. You will create a comprehensive report outlining the root cause and required controls for injury prevention. You will ensure implementation of findings with stakeholders.
• Contributing to the development of material on injury prevention to increase the awareness and knowledge level of NB employers around injury prevention. You will provide accurate technical information, advice, and education on human factors/ergonomics through the development, review, and revision of injury prevention guidelines, education, and training curriculum, tools and other publications to increase the awareness and knowledge level of NB employers around injury prevention.

You, as a successful candidate, possess:

• A University degree in a Relevant Field such as Engineering, Ergonomics and/or Kinesiology and 1-3 years of related work experience in ergonomics and assessments. A two-year college diploma in a relevant field with 2 additional years of relevant work experience may be considered.
• Must have technical biomechanical skills and human factors/ergonomics assessment skills as required by the competencies set out by the Canadian College for the Certification of Professional Ergonomists.
• Extensive knowledge in the application of standards and assessment tools.
• Knowledge and understanding in the operation and application of various human factors/ergonomics measuring tools (e.g. Chatillon gauge, dynamometers, joint angle measuring tools, 3-D posture matching).
• Ability to use and understand standards and tools.
• Certified, or eligible to become certified, by a related certifying body CCCPE (RKin etc.).

Written and spoken competency in English and spoken competency in French is required.

You will be required to have a valid driver license and required to use your own vehicle. Travel expenses are reimbursed as per our expense directive.

Pay Scale $77,735.49 to $91,452.80

Hours of work are those required to perform the assigned tasks but shall not be less than 35 hours per week.
