We invite you to use your skills with us and contribute to something meaningful and enduring.The OpportunityWe are currently seeking a Mines Survey Technician to join our Mines Technical Services Team in Thompson, Manitoba. This is a permanent position.You will work to build and maintain relationships and interact with other technical staff, supervision, and hourly employees. The position requires field work in an industrial environment, underground and/or surface and on uneven ground. Additionally, in this position you will:
- Provide underground and surface surveying services in an industrial production environment, including topography, heading alignment, stope cavity survey monitoring, check surveys, raises, and drone lidar.
- Perform safety searches as requested in the development headings.
- Update mine drawings, including plans and sections, and issue prints to associated departments regarding layout to be excavated, surveyed control points, and excavations approaching other areas or diamond drill boreholes.
- Complete month-end survey for incentive calculations and lay out reference lines and rings as required for vertical blasthole mining (VBM) production drilling.
- Survey collars and breakthroughs on production drilling for quality control, lay out reference lines for diamond drill holes, and provide borehole and breakthrough warnings.
- Ensure care and control of survey equipment and designated mobile equipment, and report daily surveying activities to the Divisional Supervisor.
- A technical diploma, OR High school diploma with strong skills in math and computer usage and 2-3 years of experience in an industrial environment, preferably in an underground setting.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in an industrial environment, preferably in an underground setting.
- Sound survey and associated mathematical skills with a robust knowledge of mine survey techniques/standards.
- Experience working in an industrial environment, preferably in an underground setting, and proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and Deswik.
- Demonstrates safe behavior, solid analytical and problem-solving abilities, excellent attention to detail, and high standards of work.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, good time management, prioritization of stakeholder requirements, and proficient use and care of survey instruments.
