About the Role

Reporting to the Manager of Public Health, the primary purpose of this position is to perform professional community health nursing in carrying out public health programs in homes, schools, clinics, and other clinical and community settings. This position provides nursing care; assists in the assessment of community health needs; conducts case management; conducts school health programs; conducts provincial immunization programs and health promotion activities; participates in pandemic response; and liaises with other community and professional personnel. With applicable cross-over training, the position also provides coverage in other departments where required. The incumbent is committed to safety and partners with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks, and implementing improvements.

Qualifications:

? Graduation from an approved/recognized school of nursing program is required;
? Current and continuing practicing licensure with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (CRNNL) is required;
? CNA certification is an asset;
? One year of Community Health Nursing (Home and Community Care and/or Public Health) experience;
? Current BLS;
? A valid Newfoundland and Labrador Class 5 Driver license and access to a private vehicle is a condition of employment;
? Applicants must also be prepared to demonstrate an ability to be self-directed and exercise independent nursing judgment in a community-based environment with limited supervision;
? Incumbent must work collaboratively with team members and community;
? Ability to assess community needs and assets; to develop, implement and evaluate public health nursing programs and healthy public policy in a population health framework is required;
? Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing is required;
? Be able to apply basic computer skills as required;
? The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory Certificate of Conduct

Duties: (Includes, but not limited to)

? Works with individuals or community groups in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating client focused wellness programs;
? Provides childbirth education through individual counseling, group teaching and involvement with Health Baby Club and other prenatal groups;
? Provides breastfeeding support;
? Carries out Healthy Beginnings Program in accordance with the program plan;
? Delivers clinics such as Child Health/Immunization, Health Checks 2 1/2, Preschool Health Check, and Adult Immunizations following Public Health Guidelines;
? Provides communicable disease follow-up according to the Provincial Guidelines;
? Delivers school health programs and wellness promotion;
? Participates in research, committees, program related activities and policy development as required;
? Liaises with health care partners for client focused service;
? Maintains accurate electronic and hard copy records and submits reports and statistics as required;
? Maintains continuing education to remain current in the new methods and procedures;
? Assists in the orientation of new personnel and acts as a preceptor for students in Public Health;
? Travel may be required;
? Maybe required to do relief;
? Maybe required to work alone;
? Other related duties as required.
