Manager Construction Planning, Major Projects

Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro is offering a challenging and exciting opportunity to join our team. Working in a creative, fast-paced environment, you'll be part of transforming the future of the province's energy sector. Our long term plan includes an ambitious capital program to rebuild, renew and replace portions of our installed asset base.
This leadership position is responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of construction efforts across the major project's portfolio, providing high-level technical guidance to senior management and team on construction issues, and leading a cross-functional team of field representatives, field engineers, and other corporate staff. The incumbent will be part of Hydro's Major Projects team, aiding in ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with all safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities and Requirements:
The successful candidate will be required to lead and coordinate a team working within a matrix organization. General responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- The strategic planning, oversight, and delivery of construction activities and construction interfaces from an owner's perspective across major electric utility projects.
- Establishing an effective project organization within the Major Projects department by identifying necessary construction resources to support the department's initiatives.
- Manage construction planning interfaces between different major projects or other capital projects at the program level, ensuring proper flow of data and communication between projects.
- Development of a construction planning strategy for Major Projects which outlines the norms and requirements from an owner's perspective.
- Support and manage on-site field engineers and construction personnel ensuring Hydro's day to day representation needs are in place.
- Participate, provide insight in to constructability planning, and help ensure constructability plans are ensured through the various major project's lifecycle.
Qualifications:
To excel in this position you will need to bring the following:
- Minimum of 15 years of experience that includes experience in large-scale construction projects, specifically within the electric utility sector is preferred.
- Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
- Expertise in construction management and the delivery of major infrastructure projects within an owner's team would be asset.
- This position requires a high level of initiative, judgement, and collaboration with Project Managers, Engineers, and construction teams.
- Familiarity with project management systems and controls or professional certification (PMP, etc.) would be considered an asset.
