MD Management Limited, a division of Scotia Wealth Management, has an exciting opportunity for a talented, enthusiastic, and client-focused Senior Manager, MD Private Investment Counsel Practice Lead to join our team.


As the Senior Manager, MD PIC Practice Lead, you will contribute to the overall success of the MD Private Investment Counsel (MDPIC) in Canada by ensuring specific individual goals, plans, and initiatives are delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. You will be responsible for implementing and maintaining strategies for best-in-class professional practices for the Portfolio Managers (PMs) in their Region, and at a national level. You will develop and implement strategies aligned with the integrated direction and structure of MD PIC and develop and monitor service and practice management standards for discretionary management, ensuring these standards allow MDFM to attain both quantitative and qualitative performance goals.

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

  • Support the education of MDPIC practices with a view to national consistency, assessing and developing best practices for regional team collaboration, time management & resource effectiveness.
  • Champion a client focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge
  • Expand the PM skill set to allow for more effective management of client relationships (e.g., training on planning software and depth of meeting discovery)
  • Support Regional Heads in overseeing the PM onboarding process and provide education and training to all new and existing MD PIC employees.
  • Support the recruitment of PMs in their zone.
  • Work closely with the head office and MD PIC front office to support current and evolving projects and their requirements.
  • Support the management of client portfolios, ensuring all clients receive continuous, consistent, and exceptional service and that all activities conducted follow governing regulations and internal policies and procedures.
  • Support the implementation and adoption of new products and sales initiatives.
  • Keep current on all financial matters that affect client investment activities and share with PM community.
  • Interact with clients as required.
  • Keep current with trends within the discretionary investment management business.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of your respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct, and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  • Champion a high-performance environment and contribute to an inclusive work environment.

The Must Haves:

  • University degree
  • 5+ years Portfolio Manager experience
  • CFA designation, or significant Portfolio Manager experience, with the ability to become registered as a Portfolio Manager
  • Experience in leading a team of highly qualified professionals
  • Proven track record of performance excellence meeting targets and objectives while providing exceptional client service
  • *Must be bilingual English & French*
