The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development is seeking an individual for the Education Services - Anglophone Division as Director of Early Learning and Development in Fredericton.

What you will do:
Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister of the Education Services Division (Anglophone), the successful candidate will play a crucial role in shaping the future of early childhood education in our province. You will be responsible for advising senior management on the direction for curriculum, inclusion support, early intervention, as well as key actions of the Canada-Wide agreement.

The successful candidate's primary responsibilities will include:

Financial Management and Accountability:

  • Administering the early learning and development branch budget totaling $11M annually.
  • Forecasting and monitoring operational and project budgets to ensure fiscal responsibility.
  • Overseeing the development of program key performance indicators and accountability measures, including financial reporting and compliance with provincial program design, policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards.

Human Resources Management:

  • Managing a team of 15 professional and administrative direct reports.
  • Coaching and mentoring staff, distributing work assignments, managing expectations, and establishing priorities.
  • Conducting ongoing and annual performance reviews, identifying key performance measures, providing clear and direct feedback, addressing conflicts and performance issues, and assisting with workload organization and priorities.

Curriculum Development/Professional Learning and Quality Improvement:

  • Leading the design, development, and implementation of early childhood curriculum, professional learning, quality, and inclusion initiatives aligned with government direction, strategic plans, current research, and preferred practices, as well as regulatory frameworks.
  • Overseeing the development of policies, procedures, guidelines, and the accountability framework for programs, including outcome indicators and financial reporting

Leadership/Networking/Relationship Building:

  • Establishing and maintaining positive and collaborative working relationships with stakeholders and partners to ensure full integration of early childhood and school services and promote a shared understanding of the government's vision for a continuum of learning from birth to graduation.
  • Collaborating with school districts on provincial strategies pertaining to early learning, focusing on defining and establishing the continuum of learning, planning, and implementing the alignment of the early learning and public education system.
  • Leading strategic thinking and creative problem-solving with internal and external stakeholders regarding early learning and childcare services and early childhood programs to ensure effective resolution of service delivery and program design challenges.
  • Representing the department on interdepartmental and intergovernmental committees, such as the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) Joint Management Committee and CMEC Early Learning Committee.

Your attitude, skills and interests are just as important as your area of study. We are looking for diverse backgrounds that bring a combination of the following:

Need to have:

  • Master Degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in early childhood leadership roles, such as early childhood specialist, director, administrator, or an early years curriculum consultant.
  • Strong understanding and experience leading implementation and application of the New Brunswick Early Learning and Childcare Curriculum Framework- English.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience in a field such as adult education/coaching may be considered.

Written and spoken competence in English is required. Please state your language capability.

Pay Band 8: $105,924 – $119,288 annually.

Work environment:

  • Office location: 250 King Street, Fredericton
  • Standard hours of work: Monday - Friday, 8:15-4:30
