The opportunity


As a U.S. Private Tax Manager, you will be a part of our U.S. Private Tax Practice. You will be part of a team that are subject matter specialists who provide advice to private organizations and high net worth business owners and individuals on domestic and cross-border tax planning, estate, wealth transfer and post mortem planning, asset protection strategies and philanthropic planning. Our PCS practice works closely with other tax teams including our transaction tax and international tax groups.

Your key responsibilities

Managers in our U.S. Private tax practice are responsible for recommending and implementing tax strategies that align with the client's objectives, corresponding with tax authorities on client issues, researching compliance & planning issues, and reviewing personal, corporate and trust tax returns.

Skills and attributes for success include the ability to

  • Demonstrating a thorough understanding of U.S. tax concepts as it relates to U.S. federal and state income tax compliance
  • Identify planning opportunities and prepare correspondence describing the income tax implications of implementing transactions
  • Establishing and maintaining long-term working relationships with clients.
  • Pursuing and sharing knowledge to develop professionally and enhance service delivery.
  • Identifying and selling opportunities for tax planning and other special services.
  • Leveraging technology to continually maximize productivity.
  • Research client issues that arise from planning or compliance work using a variety of on-line sources
  • Review personal, trust and corporate tax returns and related compliance responsibilities
  • Liaise with the Internal Revenue Service and Canada Revenue Agency and relevant U.S. state/provincial tax authorities on client issues
  • Correspond with audit managers, staff and/or clients in answering client's specific personal, trust or corporate tax queries or about matters that arise from compliance or planning work
  • Contributing to a flexible, stable, and team-oriented working culture that fosters personal professional development.


To qualify for the role you must have

  • An undergraduate or graduate degree in accounting and / or another appropriate academic major
  • 5+ years of relevant U.S. tax experience or equivalent experience in business or industry
  • An accounting designation or other related experience or certification relevant to this area of specialization i.e., completion of a US CPA and or an IRS Enrolled Agent ("EA")
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
  • Exceptional organization and time management skills enabling you to thrive within a fast-paced, professional services environment
  • Ability to work with tight deadlines
  • Process oriented with excellent documentation skills
