We have a proud history of mining in Manitoba. Our operations in Thompson, with two operating mines, is in the awe-inspiring heart of the northern boreal region. It has a strong future in mining and milling, with an ongoing mission to grow as a safe, prosperous, and sustainable nickel producer.

Our Team

The Vale Central Engineering group has North Atlantic accountabilities to deliver engineering design and studies for the various Vale mines and plants in the North Atlantic region. The team in Thompson focuses on engineering for our operations located in Thompson, Manitoba.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking an Electrical Engineering Co-op Student to join our team in Thompson. This is a 12 month-fixed term position starting in September 2024 with potential for a longer term if enrolled in an electrical engineering or electrical technology co-op program.

The successful candidate will work both remotely from home, and at Vale Thompson sites, alongside Engineers, Designers, and other personnel in the organization, to assist with a wide variety of tasks related to technical and engineering support. Duties may include helping with engineering work, drafting, reviewing reports, participating in quality reviews and/or audits, helping with office work and completing on-site work in our plants and/or mines. Although previous experience in mining or an industrial setting is considered an asset, we also appreciate that diversity of thought comes from our differences – and that's what makes us great!

Education:

• Currently enrolled and in good standing in a university or college program. Enrollment in an electrical engineering.
• Please include university/college transcript(s) in the application

Experience:

• Previous work experience in an industrial setting would be an asset.

Skills:

• Follow Vale's Safety Policies, Programs and Legislative Standards
• Strong computer skills
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and work well with others in a team environment.
• Written and oral communication skills
• Must be obsessed with safety and risk.
• Demonstrate open and transparent dialogue in all aspects of work.
• Develop skills and abilities related to the provision of engineering to Manitoba Operations
• Ensure compliance to the applicable regulations, standards, and guidelines.
• Maintain a high level of professional conduct.
• Complete assigned projects safely and on time.
