CBCL is seeking a junior or intermediate Construction Cost Estimator to join our Project Services team to lead the development of pre-tender construction cost estimates for projects of all engineering disciplines. We are open to limited remote work arrangements.

The successful candidate will be a motivated, self-starter and will prepare construction cost estimates for projects in various stages of design. During the design development process, you will work with the design team in exploring cost effective options to meet the client's objectives of schedule and price and assist the design team in assessing construction risks and contingencies.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare opinions of Probable Construction Costs in a multidisciplinary and collaborative environment;
  • Review and provide input on cost estimates prepared by other staff;
  • Prepare schedules of quantities;
  • Maintain historical cost databases using PowerBI and Excel;
  • Monitor current market trends and construction indexes;
  • Collaborate with designers and other team members on interpreting plans and specifications for multi-disciplined projects;
  • Participate in mentoring junior staff;
  • Develop cost control programs.

Your Capabilities and Credentials:

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in construction cost estimating
  • Possess quantity surveying and cost estimating experience for multidiscipline projects associated with institutional, commercial, buildings, heavy civil, industrial or marine projects (preference given to building estimating experience and/or experience estimating/bidding for general contractors);
  • Have experience in interpreting plans and specifications for multi-disciplined projects;
  • Have exposure to design development, planning, project management, tendering and procurement, and construction administration;
  • Have experience in or exposure to project risk management, developing cost control programs or value engineering;
  • Have strong written and oral communication skills; and
  • Hold a Professional Quantity Surveyor certification, or be in the process of obtaining, with the Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors.
