Position: Accountant
Location: Sussex, New Brunswick
Job Type: Full-time

Overview:

Reporting to the Manager, Claims and Accounting, this new role will be critical in facilitating an effective accounting operation and will be involved in all aspects of accounting for Carleton-Fundy Mutual and its subsidiary Eastern Insurance Inc.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Record day-to-day financial transactions and ensure accuracy in general ledger entries.
  • Reconcile bank statements, accounts receivable, and accounts payable transactions.
  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual financial reports for regulatory compliance.
  • Support the senior leadership team in budgeting and forecasting activities.
  • Assist with audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations for financial transactions.
  • Participate in the analysis of financial data and trends to provide insights for decision-making.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure financial data accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
  • Stay updated on accounting regulations and best practices to ensure compliance and efficiency.
  • Facilitate adoption of new processes and technologies to continue to improve the accounting function within the company
  • Perform other duties and ad-hoc projects as assigned by management.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience in accounting or finance. Insurance industry experience is preferred, but not necessary
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with team members.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of accounting principles, familiarity with IFRS17 an asset.
  • Accounting designation or working towards is a plus.
