Located in Oromocto, New Brunswick, MRDC Operations Corporation is responsible for the maintenance and rehabilitation of the 195 km, 4-lane Fredericton-Moncton highway. MRDC's 30-year concession contract ends in 2028, at which time the highway will be turned over to the Province of New Brunswick.

The Asphalt Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing asphalt paving projects from conception to completion, coordinating with clients, Engineers, and contractors, managing budgets and schedules, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards, and resolving any issues that arise during the project. MRDC will be repaving the entire highway surface over the next several years, with over 600,000 tonnes of asphalt placement required.

Job Description:

· Develop project plans, timelines, and budgets for asphalt paving projects,

· Review and approval of contractors payment claims

· Coordinate with clients, Engineers, subcontractors, and construction crews for project execution,

· Schedule and oversee contractor schedules to meet project deadlines,

· Implement and enforce a quality management plan for paving work

· Conduct regular site inspections to assess work quality and adherence to safety protocols,

· Address any safety concerns or violations promptly to maintain a safe work environment,

· Monitor project expenses and track costs against budget allocations,

· Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement strategies to optimize project finances,

· Prepare and present financial reports to stakeholders to provide updates on project expenditure,

· Communicate project objectives, expectations, and timelines clearly to all stakeholders,

· Foster a collaborative work environment within the project team,

· Ensure compliance with provincial and federal regulations governing asphalt paving and construction activities,

· Obtain necessary permits and approvals for project commencement and operation,

· Stay informed about changes in regulations and industry standards to ensure ongoing compliance.

· Proactively identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize disruptions,

· Resolve issues or challenges that arise during project execution,

· Analyze project performance metrics and adjust strategies as needed to achieve project goals,

· Maintain accurate project documentation, including contracts, change orders, and progress reports,

· Generate regular status reports to update stakeholders on project milestones, challenges, and achievements.

Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or educational/experience in civil engineering, construction management or a related field,
  • 5+ years of experience in asphalt paving project management, preferably in road construction,
  • Strong knowledge of asphalt materials, construction techniques, and industry standards,
  • Excellent project management and leadership skills,
  • Strong time management and communication skills, ability to prioritize tasks, problem-solve, and make informed decisions under pressure.

License: Class 5

IT: Strong working knowledge of MS Office (MS Project, Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint).
