JOB PURPOSE

Provide nursing care to patients, within the scope of educational preparation, under the supervision of a nurse. May assist the nurse in complex nursing situations. Expected to exercise judgement in accepting responsibility appropriate to job description and preparation and be accountable for own actions. Treat all patients with respect and dignity and adhere to the Values and Mission of Horizon Health Network.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduated from an approved school of Licensed Practical Nurses
  • Current registration with ANBLPN and renew annually
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrate initiative and good judgement
  • Demonstrated adherence to legislation and Health Authority confidentiality policy to ensure all patients, business, financial and employee information is accessed on an as need to know basis
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts as assigned, including weekends and holidays
  • Willingness to participate in continuing education programs as provided
  • Current nursing experience in medical / surgical nursing
  • Must be willing to rotate to other areas of hospital, if assigned
  • Current in BCLS and must recertify yearly
  • Patient Safety is a critical aspect of quality healthcare. Successful candidate must be accountable for creating a culture of safety, working as a team, communicating effectively, and responding to adverse events.
  • Ability to perform the duties of the position

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Possesses the specialized knowledge of care for long-term care patients
  • Work in other patient care areas as requested by nursing supervisor/manager.
  • Willing to participate in related allied duties which may be assigned from time to time as they become necessary to the operation of the hospital
  • Escort patients requiring ambulance transfer to another facility as required
  • Assists in the development of unit specific objectives, policies, and procedures
  • Aids in the development of and continuously evaluates effectiveness of individual nursing care plan
  • Maintains knowledge of treatments, equipment and supplies pertinent to the service.
  • Completes assigned duties as dictated by specific patient needs to ensure quality patient care provision. Aids in the completion of unit/program tasks
  • Engages in therapeutic relationships and helps support and guide patients/families in the recovery planning
  • Assists with educating patient/families
  • Supports the preceptorship program
