Reporting to the Manager of Systems and Analytics of Group Benefits Solutions (GBS), the Business Analyst position provides critical analytical support for the Service Delivery Team (SDT). This role supports various projects and change initiatives for the Group Benefits Solutions (GBS) department through data analysis, technology design and implementation, business process support and review, as well as research. This position is a key support for the service delivery team and leadership team.

Position Scope:

  • Ensures Service Delivery Teams are supported and updated on all aspects of the system(s) and business process that impact core service delivery.
  • Works directly with clients in response to questions, concerns escalated from the Service Delivery Teams.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and evaluate business systems and user needs.
  • Works with external vendors and solution providers to help design, test, implement and support technology solutions for GBS, chiefly our Benefits Administration System, Ariel.
  • Coordinates with the GBS leadership to ensure information is routed correctly and operational impacts are considered.
  • Translates business needs into business system changes or requirements as well as support with the development and delivery of associated resource materials.
  • Determines operational objectives by studying business functions; gathering information; evaluating output requirements and formats.
  • Conducts insightful, ad hoc analyses to investigate ongoing or one-time operational issues.
  • Logs, tracks, prioritizes, and monitors system enhancements and defects discovered and works with administration system vendor to resolve and ensure adequate testing is in place prior to implementation.
  • Prepares, collates, and analyzes data, preparing reports.
  • Develops and maintain supporting reference documentation for Service Delivery usage.
  • Supports departmental data quality initiatives by producing appropriate reporting and implementing data clean-up as required.
  • Reviews and actions high value pending money or reconciliation issues and determine the root cause.
  • Provides support to the Financial Analyst role and perform backup duties as required, specifically tasks associated with the monthly billing process and provider payments.
  • Provides support to the Reconciliation Analyst role with ad hoc queries and reports.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years knowledge in the administration of employee group benefits and billings.
  • Completion of university level education in business or related field, or a combination of education, training and experience.
  • 3-5 years experience in a business analyst role or proven and progressive experience in analysing data to draw business-relevant conclusions and insights derived using strong business and financial acumen.
  • Completion of some industry level courses such as CEBS, IFEBP (FTMS, ATMS) or at a minimum willingness to further industry knowledge.
  • Strong knowledge of benefit administration or payroll systems such as Ariel Benefits, SAP, Payworks, etc.
  • Business computing skills including Microsoft application suite; advanced knowledge of Excel is an asset. Familiarity & competency with MS SharePoint is an asset.
  • Familiarity with data extract/transformation/load concepts and tools (Tableau Prep, Microsoft PowerQuery) is an asset
  • Keen to stay abreast of technology trends and developments and display an ability to acquire and refine new technology capabilities.
