The Organization

Eastern Residential Support Board Inc. is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Maintenance Worker.

Eastern Residential Support Board Inc. is a dynamic, well-established not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing residential and emotional support for our clients. ERSB's mandate is to provide a community-based home-like living arrangement and support to individuals with physical and/or developmental delays, and to provide the physical and human resources to foster emotional support and physical care for these individuals making an adjustment to community living. ERSB currently operates thirteen cooperative living arrangements in the St. John's metro area and is a unionized organization, with NAPE being the bargaining agent.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled and reliable Repairs and Maintenance Worker to join our team. Working with the Maintenance Coordinator. The ideal candidate will have experience in general repairs and maintenance, with a focus on addressing the unique needs of group homes serving individuals with complex behavioral issues. This role requires a compassionate and patient approach, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with others.

Specific Accountabilities include:

• Perform routine maintenance tasks, including minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, plaster and painting.
• Respond promptly to repair requests from the Maintenance Coordinator.
• Conduct inspections to identify potential issues and address them proactively.
• Collaborate with the Maintenance Coordinator and Director of Corporate Services to prioritize and schedule repairs.
• Ensure that all repairs comply with safety and building code standards.
• Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities.
• Participate and facilitate garbage removal and trips to the City of St. John's Landfill.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in general repairs and maintenance.
• Familiarity with plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC systems.
• Understanding of the unique challenges and sensitivities of working in a group home environment for individuals with complex behavioral issues.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Compassionate and patient attitude towards residents and staff.
• High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training is a plus. Equivalency will be considered.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Letter of Conduct.

The Rewards

Starting salary is $21.20 per hour. Salary is based on Goverment of Newfoundland and Labrador payscale GC - 22 ($44,096.00 to 48,360.00). The compensation package also includes enrollment in ERSB's Pension and Benefits plans; five weeks paid leave plus statutory holidays; a fourty-hour work week, and a compressed work schedule if desired.
