The Department of Public Safety is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Operations Officer for its Emergency Measures Organization. Reporting to the provincial Operations Supervisor, this position is responsible for operation readiness and support and execution of provincial emergency operations during emergencies in order to mitigate the consequences of disaster.

What you will do

The successful candidate will be responsible for key elements of emergency preparedness and operational readiness, such as the maintenance of the Provincial Emergency Operations Centre and associated equipment, radios, duty vehicles, EMO Command Post and computer systems. Operations Officers will be responsible to maintain and enhance policies and procedures associated with Emergency Management and concept of operations.

Specific duties include instructing emergency management courses, and providing advice and assistance to municipalities, industry and government regarding emergency response and assistance. Operations Officers are required to regularly assess developing or actual situations, assess risks, and prepare risk assessments for planning consideration. Operations staff are expected to be familiar with and many different technical platforms and alert systems, as well as maintain and updating large distribution list.

Work environment
  • Office location: 65 Brunswick Street, Fredericton NB
  • Office layout: office provided along with PEOC
  • Your Team: (small team comprising of 5 people, can grow during events)
  • Standard hours of work: Monday - Friday, 8:15-4:30. Hours will be modified/ subject to recall if activated for response activities due to an emergency event
  • We promote a scent-reduced environment
  • After hours work in support of operations and as provincial duty officer

Need to have (their essential skills and qualifications)

University degree in Arts, Business Administration or similar discipline supplemented with courses in risk management, emergency management, media relations, and/or risk analysis and a minimum of 2 years' experience in emergency services and/or related experience or Post-Secondary Education with 5 years related experience. Excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills are essential.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.

Written and spoken competence in English is required, please state your language capability.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: The following operational requirement(s) is also required:
a valid driver's license to carry out duties throughout the province. As a condition of employment, the successful applicant will be required to obtain security clearance at the level of SECRET, in accordance with the Government of Canada Security Policy.

Nice to Have (their asset qualifications)

Preference will be given to those applicants who have training and/or experience in emergency response in areas of policing, corrections, firefighting, ground search and rescue, delivery of ambulance services or the military.

Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application one or more of the asset qualifications in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration.

Wage

$2,140 ¿ $2,993 bi-weekly (Pay Band 4)
