Shambhala School is eagerly seeking a Learning Specialist Teacher to champion the diverse needs of our students, ranging from pre-primary to grade 12. This is an exciting opportunity to join our passionate team at our small independent school. We're on the lookout for someone who deeply understands Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and is committed to supporting a range of learning requirements, from enrichment to remediation.

The ideal candidate will be a beacon of inspiration in the classroom, armed with the latest knowledge and practices in differentiated instructional strategies and educational assessments. Your role will be pivotal in collaborating with fellow educators to ensure our curriculum is accessible and inclusive for every student.

At Shambhala School, we uphold the values of critical pedagogy and strive to decolonize the curriculum. We're seeking a teacher who shares these principles and is enthusiastic about co-creating an engaging learning environment alongside us.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing tailored instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs.
  • Collaborating closely with classroom teachers to ensure instruction is both differentiated and accessible.
  • Developing and implementing strategies to foster academic and social-emotional growth for all students.
  • Engaging in continuous professional development to stay abreast of the latest best practices in learning support and pedagogy.
  • Collaborating with faculty to review and refine our curriculum, fostering inclusive, accessible, and diverse learning environments.

To qualify for this role, we're looking for candidates with:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field (a Master's degree is preferred).
  • Experience in Special Education is a must.
  • A solid grasp of Universal Design for Learning principles and practices.
  • Experience implementing both remediation and enrichment strategies.
  • Familiarity with decolonizing the curriculum and critical pedagogy.
  • A genuine passion for working with students with diverse learning needs, coupled with a steadfast commitment to equity and inclusion.

In return, we offer a competitive salary, commensurate with experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package. If you're excited about the prospect of joining our team of dedicated educators, please submit your resume and a cover letter outlining your qualifications and interest in the position.

Shambhala School is an equal opportunity employer, welcoming applications from all qualified individuals. While we appreciate all submissions, only those selected for an interview will be contacted. Please send your cover letter, resume, and teaching philosophy to [email protected]. Please note that the successful candidate will be subject to passing and maintaining a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector check.
