Our Team

Our Newfoundland and Labrador Operations are an integrated mining, milling, and processing operation. Nickel concentrate from the fly-in, fly-out Voisey's Bay operation is shipped to our state-of-art Long Harbour Processing Plant where it is refined into low-carbon and high-purity nickel rounds, cobalt rounds and copper cathodes.

The Mechanical Maintenance Execution Team is responsible for coordinating maintenance activities for planned and unplanned preventative and repair maintenance tasks. They are expected to follow the weekly maintenance schedule and execute the work as planned based on equipment availability, while also responding to any repairs required during a process upset to ensure the plant continues to run. They enforce and implement safety programs (i.e.: Golden Rules, Toolbox Talks, CRM/LIF Audits, etc.) to help prevent accidents before they occur. They also work collaboratively with other disciplines and support where needed.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Mechanical Engineering Student – Fall 2024 to join our Vale Operations in Long Harbour, NL. This is a 4-month fixed term position working a 4x10s schedule (Monday to Thursday OR Tuesday to Friday) at the Operations site in Long Harbour, NL.

As a Mechanical Engineering Student, you will have the opportunity to further your development by providing day-to-day support for various projects and initiatives within the Maintenance Department. From operations to leadership development, diversity & inclusion, and culture, you will have a holistic and enriching experience like no other. Additionally, in this position, you will:

• Maintenance – Working with maintenance engineers and maintenance coordinators to ensure the efficient execution of maintenance activities. Provide urgent technical assistance to Maintenance Coordinators to increase equipment availability and reduce production losses.
• Reliability – Working with reliability engineers and advisors to improve the reliability of equipment throughout the plant by assisting to modifying maintenance plans. Participate in Root Cause Analysis for equipment failures to improve equipment availability.
• Maintenance Planning – Assisting maintenance planning and scheduling team in modifying maintenance plans, liaising with vendors, and other duties as required.
• Material management – Repairable parts management, ordering of parts, and stock coding new parts as required.
• Support the Safe Production Model of risk and hazard management and lead by example.
• Assisting with document management and site Management of Change (MOC) process.

About You

Education:

• Currently enrolled as a student in a Mechanical Engineering (Co-op) Program.

Skills:

• Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal communication, analytical and problem-solving skills and a proven safety record are essential.
